Hi,

I'm getting a sweep on Friday to try and induce labour as I have a large baby, I will be 37 weeks exactly. I here many different stories of weather woman think the sweep actually works. Did it work first time for anybody???

More likely to work after 40weeks and on second or subsequent babies. Don't work well on first pregnancies as often they can't do effective sweep as the cervix is tightly closed.
If they do a good sweep expect it to be quiet uncomfortable.

It's not a medical induction just a hope that things will start themselves.

It only works if your body is otherwise ready for labour. That said, some women are ready for a couple of weeks before it starts, so it could help. More likely if you've had a baby before because you are more sensitive t o the hormones.

Had sweeps at 38 weeks, 39 weeks and 40 weeks. None worked. Neither did 3 pessaries at 40 weeks. Failed induction. I think now that baby just wasn’t ready to come out!

Had a sweep at 38 weeks he was born the next day although he was my second ds and the doctor's had said at my previous appointment the week before that my baby was ready to make an appearance
