Hey ladies I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant and I'm craving so much junk food. This is my 2nd pregnancy and during my first i craved the same. All i want to eat is takeaways and loads of salty foods. I have had more takeaways in the last 2 months than i have done in a year maybe lol. I used to eat so healthy before i fell pregnant but now all i want is mcds, kfc, fish and chips, chinese you name it. I feel so bad that im not giving the baby enough nutrition. Any advice please 😌 X

No advice sorry, im 13wks and still craving naughty food. In my case i moved house at Christmas and still don't have an oven installed so am living off microwave meals where possible (except they repulse me) and im not able to get much other than junk or bread based foods at work. No fridge at home yet or running water... The joys of renovation.

I figure eating something is better than eating nothing and hopefully it'll all work out in the end. I wouldn't publish yourself about it.

Maidmummy · 21/02/2018 08:51

Sorry but I'm no help either as at the minute i have food aversions but i did find this little snippet from a website that may explain why you are having these cravings

Food cravings during pregnancy are well documented and extremely common. In some cases they can be entirely random, but mostly when we crave certain foods, it is for a reason.

Cravings are almost always our body’s way of asking for certain vitamins and minerals we may be lacking and as such, these can become heightened during pregnancy to ensure that the growing baby is getting the nutrients it needs.

So it could be that the body is craving salt and carbs. Hope it helps a little Smile

I'm 9 weeks today and have been exactly the same for the past week. The thought of vegetables makes me feel ill, last night I had a child's mini pizza thing and garlic bread, I'll have the same tonight. Also lots of sugary cereal.

RayM · 21/02/2018 10:07

All I could stomach/wanted was junk food for the first trimester Blush. I took my vitamins daily but know this isn’t as good as having a healthy meal!

wowbutter · 21/02/2018 10:09

Thinking about women with hyperesmis gravidarum, or however you spell it. They can't eat or keep any food down. Somehow they manage to have healthy babies.
Take a multi vitamin and eat what you like. He baby removes vitamins from your stores, regardless. You'll be back to normal soon.
My first trimester was chicken arrabiata ready meals, dominoes BBQ pizza and Big Macs, washed down with lucozade.

Midnightpony · 21/02/2018 10:11

When I was pregnant the sight of a salad made me nauseous. But pizza? Yum!
I think it's your body's way of stocking up quickly in case there's a famine/food shortage later in pregnancy

dachshundmummyandmummytobe · 21/02/2018 10:12

Hey!
I'm currently 14+5 and just wanted to say I was and still am exactly the same although it has got better!!
I used to try and eat raw carrot sticks and fruit as well, I panicked too but if I wanted it, I ate it.
The thought of cooked veg made me sick! I still can't eat cooked veg but I'm not craving as much junk food as I was!
If you want it, eat it! The main thing is that you are eating!!

Anatidae · 21/02/2018 10:16

Look, I had HG during my first and the same now with my second.

I lived off whatever would stay down. Sometimes that was flat coke and licking the salt off chips (loathe coke normally.)

If you want junk, have some junk. Don’t have too much and keep eating the healthy stuff too, but honestly, they take what they need from you. Ds was born perfectly healthy, strong and alert.

Barbie0316 · 21/02/2018 15:36

Thank you so much ladies im gld im not the only one lol! My mouth was literally watering reading some of your cravings 😂 I really want a big mac now or a dominos pizza! I have just bought a load of food and im eating it as much as i can in between my splurges on takeaways and its so hard to stomach im really forcing myself to eat them. But give me something greasy and salty and I'll eat it all with no issues whatsoever lol. I suppose once the cravings die down abit i can eat more healthier like i did before i fell pregnant Grin

Just eat what you want. Better to have something than nothing!

Barbie0316 · 21/02/2018 15:38

I’m also a 1st trim junk scoffer and have really bad sickness so I only want to eat what I fancy. My midwife assured me it’s nothing to worry about. But I do feel uneasy about the amount of sugar I must be eating. Can your diet cause gestational diabetes or is it unrelated to diet? I worried the whole of my last pregnancy that I’d cause myself to have it yet here I am again stuffing my face with crap!

PasstheStarmix · 21/02/2018 15:52

I’m having cravings and I’m not pregnant so at least you have an excuse!

Upsidedownandinsideout · 21/02/2018 15:52

I'm the same. Generally I'm mostly vegetarian and eat a lot of veggie curries, stir fries, big salads and the like. From about week 5 of pregnancy, all I want is chips and total rubbish! It does settle down a bit - also can you find things that satisfy the cravings without being so unhealthy?

Eg I do oven baked new potatoes with some olive oil and dash of salt vs chips
Nairn's cheesy oat crackers Vs pringles
Home made pizza or even a store bought oven one vs a takeaway pizza
Crunchy crudités plus hummus seem to satisfy some of the above too!

But go easyish on yourself and look at the whole week Vs a single day or meal.

Upsidedownandinsideout · 21/02/2018 15:55

Also, does it help to have other people cook.for you? I find that food aversions make cooking healthy food really off putting for me, so it helps when my DH can cook.

Sals27 · 21/02/2018 15:57

Im 10+4 and ate McDonalds for dinner last night. Those salty fries were delicious Blush

Also, as someone who didnt ever used to have a sweet tooth or eat cake except for a very rare treat.....I have eaten an incredible amount of cake over the past 6 weeks. Blush

So yeah, I have nothing helpful to offer Grin

Barbie0316 · 20/03/2018 22:24

Thank you ladies for the advice I'm 13 weeks now and the cravings seemed to have calmed down now thank God lol now the thought of most takeaways makes me feel sick 😂 So it seems the tables have turned. Ive still also got bad nausea but only from mid noon until evening so im hoping it will disappear for good soon fingers crossed 🤗

fallhappy1 · 21/10/2021 15:46

I had horrific hyperemesis gravidarum with my first two pregnancies and I couldn't keep any liquid or food down. Your baby will be fine. Enjoy your naughty meals.

dg93 · 21/10/2021 19:37

Same.... but I'm now 22 weeks pregnant and still craving junk food now more than ever..... in fact my biggest craving right now is Mars bar ice creams and galaxy ripple bars 🥵

I spoke with my midwife about my worries at the 16 week appointment as I was constantly hungry... apparently it's completely normal. I'm not as hungry throughout the day anymore but all I want is junk food and takeaways... 😂

TillyDevon · 21/10/2021 21:30

Can you try and steer it to things with more nutrients? I keep craving fruit juice or sweet things and instead I’ve been steering it to whole fruit, dates and hot chocolate made without sugar which hits the spot.

I also crave cheese a lot but just eat that!

Wifflywafflywoo · 22/10/2021 11:05

I'm about 10 weeks and all I want is violently spicy food. DP sits sweating next to me as I shovel down scorching hot curries, Jalapenos from the jar, siracha sauce, fresh chili etc. I made arrabiata sauce earlier in the week and it almost took his face off, I found it delightful! If I can't get spicy it needs to be really vinegary and sharp. So weird!

This thread is making me need McDonald's now 😄
