Have I already harmed my baby? :(

Hi everyone.

I discovered I was pregnant on the 16th of February. Very much unplanned and a big shock, but now I've had time to process it I'm happy!

The only concern I have is that I had the implant (Nexplanon) inserted three weeks ago. I strongly suspect I was already pregnant (just) when it was inserted. We used condoms both before the implant and for the first seven days, so this baby was obviously very determined... Grin

Anyway, I rang up the sexual health clinic (where I had the implant inserted) today to ask about my implant and was told by the receptionist that she needed to consult a clinician and would ring me back. She rang back a couple of hours later to tell me that I needed an appointment and could I pop in tomorrow afternoon? I accepted the appointment but am now panicking! Why do they want to see me so quickly? I'm terrified that the implant has hurt my baby.

This is my first pregnancy so everything is a worry haha. I'm terrified that I've already harmed my baby. Like I said, this pregnancy was very much unplanned but now I'm pregnant I desperately want it and am devastated that I could've potentially hurt by baby. Sad

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Smile

Sorry, small typo. I found out I was pregnant on the 15th, not the 16th.

They will probably want to remove it if possible.

My sister fell pregnant whilst on the implant they also took it out straight away- her baby was absolutely fine! Hope all goes well tomorrow op and the remainder of your pregnancy

Surely it’ll just be to remove it?

CobaltRose · 19/02/2018 15:31

Yes, I suspect it is because they want to remove it. However, my main concern is why they want it out so quickly? Is it harmful to a developing baby?

I got pregnant while I had the implant in, they said it wouldn't cause any harm if I was already pregnant. I think it's because it doesn't stop implantation? I think baby will be fine Smile

Yeah it will be a removal as they will want it out so no chances are taken - shouldn't be any problems but imho they should have asked you to do a test before insertion if any chance or asked you to wait until next period.

Defo ask them questions.

Isn't this implant progesterone? If so then sure that will do no harm - I was on progesterone pessaries (for a short cervix) for my entire pregnancy with DS!

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 19/02/2018 16:13

It won’t harm development or anything like that but obviously there are limited studies to prove this and the implant won’t be licensed for use during pregnancy so they will remove it ASAP as a ‘just in case’, even though there isn’t really an issue.

I took the pill for weeks before I found out I was pregnant ! Don’t panic x
