Hey

I am sure you've heard this a hundred times before. I found out I was pregnant on Saturday morning. I called my doc today and all the receptionist said was they'd fax the midwife who'd be in touch between 8-10 weeks. Is this about right?

Also, when is 8-10 weeks? Is it 8-10 weeks since my LMP or 8-10 weeks since conception? I did give my LMP but she also asked me how pregnant I thought I was, to which I replied about 2.5 weeks. I'm so confused, never done this before and I feel so thick!

Yes the first appointment, the booking appointment, is done at around 8-10 Weeks. Then the 12 week scan is arranged.

When dating your pregnancy use your last period date.

Congratulations! It's from your LMP. So you will be 8 weeks pregnant when it has been 8 weeks since the first day of your last period (LMP).

8 - 10 weeks is when you first see the midwife in my area. They book you for the 12 week scan at that appointment, but it varies by area. If you are at all worried you can always ring back and ask what the process is but it sounds ok to me.

You ca't have got a positive at 2.5 weeks OP, for the first 2 weeks you wouldn't have ovulated yet, then a week for the embryo to settle in your womb and a week for levels to start to rise to be picked up by a test.

How pregnant you are counts from the day of your last period, not conception.

I'm guessing you've done a clear blue? Those things are notoriously innacurate and cause so much worry to women cause they show 1-2 weeks when they think they should be 2-3 and actually the woman is inside the normal hcg range for their dates.

Rant aside, (apologies), but count from the first day of your last period to know how far gone you are :)

In proper terms I am 5 weeks today. If I went by when I actually conceived though it would be around 2.5 weeks ago (or less) as I ovulated 5 days after a normal person would. The receptionist did take my LMP date but then day ask "and how many weeks do you actually think you've been pregnant?" So i answered with a rough estimation of when I conceived based on the date I ovulated and specified as much. I'm sure the midwife will work it all out ok.

Thanks for your replies anyway. I think it clears things up x
