I’m 12 weeks pregnant. I don’t think I see my midwife until 16 weeks or so. When do I need to book them?

I think you're meant to start attending them when you're about 32 to 34 weeks pregnant, earlier if twins. However I'd book as early as just after the 20 week scan as my local ones booked up very quickly and by the time I was 26 weeks there were no places left!

I'd do it after the 20 week scan :)

I would book onto one ASAP - you book according to your due date. I know lots of people who left it too late and then couldn't get a spot.

Think we did ours around 34-36 weeks. Everyone had massive bumps and there were lots of bathroom breaks!

My Midwife told me to book it after my 12 week scan. A friend of mine booked hers earlier than that and she ended up being with a load of people who were due much sooner than her which isn't ideal. It's better if you are due within a few weeks so you have a shared experience

Sorry that should say 20 week scan!!

welshweasel · 18/02/2018 22:31

Round here if you don’t book NCT straight after your 20 weeks scan you won’t get a place. But we don’t have any nhs classes.

Oh and mine started when I was 34 weeks pregnant. Should have finished when I was 38 weeks pregnant but 2 of us had had our babies by then!

I booked my NCT classes early on (15 weeks?) as heard they fill up, and glad I did as got the last slot for my due date. But there's no risk of being with people at different stages as the point is you book for your due date - eg late March - late April 2018 births. Mine start this week when I'll be 33 weeks. I'm early April so guess the range will be 31-35 weeks for people in my class.

NCT is really easy to book because you do it by your due date and attend with other people due on the same time slot as you. I booked mine before Xmas and won't be doing it until the end of April.

NHS ones (if you get them) will probably be set up so that you get told when to book at our first MW appointment, so that should all work out fine as well. It's usually a third trimester thing as far as I know.
