Hey All,

I'm new here. Found out a week ago and panicking a bit will all the decisions I need to make (first time mum to be). First with choosing a hospital after the amount of horror stories I read :(. While i was doing my research (I'm an over analytical person by the way so my brain is currently in an overdrive) I came across private midwifes where you can can get antenatal, support during birth in hospital or postnatal support. It's definitely not cheap but i'm wondering if that would make thee journey easier and calmer. Has any of you used a private midwife? any opinion? thanks a lot and sorry if that was already covered but i did a search and couldn't find anything recent

I looked into this, following a less than ideal birth experience with DS when we were considering trying for DC2. As far as I could establish, you can no longer hire a private midwife in the UK. It was something to do with the type of insurance cover they'd need being impossible to get due to changes in laws surrounding attending births. That's likely why you couldn't find anything recent.

It was last year I looked into it, so A) things might have changed since then, and B) I could have been mistaken in the first place.
