Absolute stinking cold - surely there's something I can take?

Sorry to winge but I've got an absolute humdinger of a cold. Running nose, blocked up ears, headache, sore throat, etc. I'm seven months pregnant and can't face walking down to the chemist only to be told there's nothing I can have. Someone please tell me there's something down there worth making the trip for...

Well, sadly you can't take any of the heavy duty cold/flu medicine but you can take panadol or any other type of paracetamol, you can get Vicks Vapour chest rub to help with the congestion and it's worth getting a saline nasal spray to help unclog your poor nose. Some tea and chicken soup would be useful too! I really sypmathise with you, it's awful getting a cold when your preggers. It's still worth making the trip to the chemists tho for these things b/c every little bit helps. Feel better!!

I did lots of steam inhalations to relieve the pressure of sinus pain (normally I'd just dose up on sudafed!) and if you've got something menthol to put in the water even better. Sleep, sleep and sleep some more and keep drinking fluids!

apart from that, it's a bit rubbish really. Paracetomol is about the only thing. Hope you feel better soon xx

My MW said to disolve a paracetamol in hot water and add honey and lemon. I do find that a hot honey and lemon makes me feel a bit better too. As the others have said really. Inhale steam, drink lots, soup and rest is what you need. (Plus some choc and a duvet on the sofa works wonders!)

I had horrid sinusitis and I got to the point where I was having panic attacks from not being able to breathe, or falling asleep and waking up gasping for breath, having a panic attack.

I took whatever the hell I wanted.

I figured compromised breathing was more of a risk than a little Sudafed.

Baby was fine.

It's hard to get to sleep when you can't breathe and you're in pain.

Get on a US pregnancy website and ask what their obstetricians allow them to take.

Bet it's a lot more than Brits allow. They tend to just let people suffer through things here.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Have made Lazarus-like dash to chemist for paracetemol and Olbas Oil. And have put DH to work to cooking a curry to unblock me. And have new DVD to occupy manic toddler. Determined to feel better soon...
