31 Weeks, baby in 5th Percentile......

Just had growth scan and apparently baby is in 5th percentile. I got so huge so quickly at first.... just genuinely thought it would be cause I'm tall with really sticky out ribs that my belly hadn't grown enough so shocked

Got another scan next week, trying not to worry as they said everything else looked fine :/

Anyone had similar experience?

Sometimes these things just happen. My DD was on the 4th percentile when she was born, I was scanned each week and then induced at 38 weeks as a precaution. I spent so much time worrying that something bad was going to happen but she was born small and perfectly healthy.

Just think of the additional scans as a good thing - you're being well looked after and get to see your baby more Smile

Thanks, I know I'm being silly to worry and it's hardly going to make matters better...

But everything has gone so smoothly until now. No problems, morning sickness, etc.

Just surprised

I had small growth flagged up at the 20 week scan, just below the 10th. Two further scans at 22 and 24 have put us just below the 5th, so I'm being monitored closely. If you had a good result in terms of heart, spine, organs etc it seems like it's most likely to be just a small baby. Have they said anything about the next steps?

Don't worry, one of my twins was measuring small all the way through, had extra scans and a referral to a consultant at a women's hospital. They were born at 36 weeks, little one at 4lbs7oz and his brother was 5lbs12oz. They're now 6 months old and pretty much the same weight, outgrowing clothes at lightening speed. We know now that the reason he wasn't growing as well is because the little monkey was squeezing his umbilical cord and came out holding it 😂

I'm sure your baby will be fine and the birth weight really doesn't give much of an indication of how they'll grow once they're born.

They just said that as it was the first growth scan they couldn't really tell much. Have to wait til next week then get another one then they'll take it from there. They pretty much just want to see some growth. If not they might start thinking about inducing and stuff...

Here was me worrying about having to give birth to a 10lb monster with a giant head!

It's difficult isn't it, when you want to know what's going to happen but they genuinely can't tell you. At least they're keeping a close eye on you, I keep reminding myself that we were considering paying for a private gender scan and now we don't have to! Hopefully your little one won't be here for a good while yet.
