Whooping cough vaccine

Hi all,

I had my Whooping Cough vaccine on weds and it's been quite bruised feeling, earlier I ran my hand over it and found there's a hard lump at the site, it's about 5p sized probably so only small, but also red around it (like a 10p size with another half 10p next to it, best description 😅). Not really sore, kind of itchy bruise tender when touched.

Did this happen with everyone else (I'm sure it's fairly normal but wondered when I could expect it to go down?)

Hi lass

When I had it in 2014 I had same issue - hard lump is a common side affect but I developed cellulitis and it was well over 20cm wide with that so landed on antibiotics.

Remember the WCV is Intramuscular so it's gonna hurt for a wee bit but will get better quickly

If the redness or pain increases then see a GP not the midwife

I’m a practice nurse and give these a lot- the little lump is usually a good sign your body is making a decent immune response to the vaccine :)

Cold compress might help, but go back to see your vaccinator if it swells more, gets hot or gets more painful x
