Pregnancy

Did you get stretch marks?

Hi all! First post here.

I'm 25 weeks pregnant with my first, and in the last few days my bump seems to have grown considerably! Now feels very firm all over (not a bit squishy in places as it has done!).

I've been moisturising daily for the past 6 weeks (boobs and belly). Are stretch marks common for most women? If so, when did you get yours?

Thanks!

Never got any, never moisturized.

It's your skin texture I think.

Only in the last week of my pregnancy and only just around my belly button. Can't really see them now.

Three pregnancies, no stretch marks. It's all down to luck & skin type, I don't think there's much that can be done to prevent them sadly.

None. I didnt use any moisturiser so I think its either luck. Or maybe genetics as my mum says she never had any either.

I have none from 2 pregnancies but already had them on my boobs, bum, thighs and lower back from pubity. No idea why my belly escaped, my bump was huge!

No, none. I slathered myself in Clarins Body Treatment oil every day and used their bust gel religiously.

I suspect it's down to luck rather than anything topical but my sisters got loads so I feel really lucky.

None from two pregnancies including twins. I used bio oil every night but think it's more down to genetics/ luck. My mum didn't get any either

I used bio oil religiously and had none... until one evening around 36-38 weeks where he turned.

I remember thinking how much the baby was moving. Woke up the next day covered in them... Faded now though.

Yes, mainly the underneath of the bump.

Stretch marks are nothing you can avoid. They happen when the structural mateix in the deep layer of skin is stretched past tolerance. No commercial cream or oil can penetrate that far into the skin, so absolutely nowt you rub on can help. If you’re going to get them you’re going to get them.

I haven't got any stretch marks, neither dud my mum. I believe it is down to genes.
Having said that i used Decleor lemon scented oil promoted for specifically pregnant women for stretch marks (saw it in QVC) as and when i remembered to apply ie twice a week througout my pregnancy.
I still believe that it is down to the genes.

I believe it is to do with skin type and genetics. I got them from around 30 weeks. They basically start under my boobs and go all the way down to my pubic bone, kind of swirling round the belly button. I also have them all over my hips. They are wide and purple now (8 months pp) but they were bright red during pregnancy and after birth. I moisturised religiously all over and stayed hydrated etc.

I luckily didn't get any. Down to luck I reckon more than anything else. I bought bio oil in the early pregnancy but then saw it had vitamin A in it which can contribute to miscarriage so didn't use it. I bought some other body butter but can honestly say I used it about 2/3 times only.

Mine arrived st 41 weeks with DC1, who was born at 41+2. At the time I was mightily pissed off because I had been moisturising religiously till then. But in retrospect, now they have faded, I like that they are a reminder of my first pregnancy. There are just a few and all between my navel and top of my underwear. None with DC2 who was born at 39+5 Wink

With dc1 I didn't get any - till I gave birth. Then a 1 inch long one appeared just above my belly button and one more on my side a few days after.
I could deal with that, but my milk came in and my boobs literally ballooned to 3 or 4 times their previous size. When they went down they were covered in stretch marks.

I'm now 30 weeks with no. 2 and the 2 stretchmarks on my bump so far are just growing, no new ones but I'm fully expecting them!

Got away wirh none after 2 pregnancies and huge bumps both times. I was 39 and 41 when i had dc. I thought i had super skin but then i read that you're more likely to get stretch marks if you're young as your skin is tauter, while by my age its more loose 😕 my skin is more wrinkly now, esp if i squash it together, so didnt get off scot free...

First pregnancy I looked like I'd been in a fight with a tiger. Belly, thighs, boobs, hips. Second pregnancy no new ones. Took years to go silvery but sunshine helps.

Nope, not a single one during or after pregnancy. I'm slim and had a good-sized bump but managed to escape them. I hardly ever remembered to moisturise either, I don't think that makes much difference tbh.

Didn't have any. Just got to 38 weeks and there they are. Blurgh 😩 I have used bucket loads of moisturiser as well!

None in 3 pregnancies.

Report
scaredofthecity · 14/02/2018 08:08

I thought I'd escaped and then a load turned up about 2 days after birth Hmm

They have faded nicely though

Report
NerdyBird · 14/02/2018 08:19

None in pregnancy. I have them on hips, thighs and boobs from puberty though. Those ones have faded a lot. I just used normal moisturiser for most of my pregnancy, didn't get a special one. My skin felt good even if it didn't make any difference to the marks.

Report
Oysterbabe · 14/02/2018 08:28

None with my first, loads with my second. My second was a big baby though.

Never got any
Just basic moisturising
My mum has none
It's all genetic

None with first pregnancy, one tiny one that appeared at the end of the second pregnancy. I'm extremely tall though which meant I had quite a small bump.

I moisturised daily and got them at 36 weeks. They started a red dots on my hips and grew about half a centimetre a day until I gave birth. The worst two or three were a tick as my little finger.

You either get them or you don't. Nothing you can do to prevent them.
