I've been having trouble posting on our old thread, so hope you don;t mind if I start another until we've all successfully delivered!!!!
Well what an annoying night I had! I couldn't get to sleep as I was having some strong tightenings. I lay trying to sleep but everytime I was nodding off another woud come. They were every 5-10 mins and I could feel cramps as strong as when I was in labour with DD. I thought oh god this is it. This went on for an hour and I had diorreah (SP!). Sat up and they kept coming. Then suddenly after and hour and half - nothing, no pains or twinges. I was gutted when I woke up this am!!!! I CAN'T be THAT far away can it!!! 3 days overdue now!
How is everyone els today????

week overdue today, quackers...

i'm getting tightenings and twinges in the evening but nothing really during the day. Got my mw coming round in about an hour - she's offered me a sweep but I'm think I'm going to wait for the baby to find her own way out. I just think she's like her dad and likes a lie in!

Most frustrating things about late pregnancy/overdueness

total boredom with lying on one side with pillow under belly/between legs etc

heartburn

'are you still here?' questions (yes, and i still will be once I've had the baby, dur...)

feeling nervous about embarking on car journeys over about 10 miles

total lack of inspiration on the fashion front and no justification for buying new clothes!

Well, here's hoping for both of us and everyone else who's still waiting

I might have a July baby afterall.....

DH and I had sex last night in an attempt to kickstart labour. However, when I went to loo afterwards I had a bit of spotting. Fresh red blood, not a show. It was so little that I went back to bed. but there was a wee drop more this morning. The midwife told me to come in to get baby checked out.

They monitored the baby who was very happy!! I then had 3 rather large BH contractions in a row so the Midwife asked if I wanted a cervical examination and GUESS WHAT?????

I'm 2-3 cm dilated and 50% affaced (don't understand that bit, but it sounds good). She gave me a membrane sweep whilst she was there. So I'm back at home to let labour establish. I'm getting lots and lots of backache, so I've just taken some cocodamol and I'm off to sit on my birthing ball.

Can anyone give me any info on Membrane Sweeps??? How likely is it that labour will start properly today?

OH MY GOD I'M SCARED!......

Wish me luck people!!!!

Angeliz · 30/07/2004 14:29

BEST OF LUCK!!!

HOW EXCITING!
There was a very recent thread about sweeps!

Toothache · 30/07/2004 14:32

Thanks Angeliz! I'll go have a search for it now.

madgirl · 30/07/2004 15:47

toothache- what's happening?!
good luck girls

Quackers · 30/07/2004 16:27

Toothache, sounds very promising!!! I replied on the sweep thread, but I had a sweep at 2cm dilated a week overdue last time and within the hour had trickles and went into labour that night. I'd had some v strong BH's like you and it did the trick perfectly. I really hope this is it for you. I'm having nothing today. I was so convinced last night as it was as strong as when I was in labour with DD, but matbe it;s just warming up. It's hot now and the hospital will be warm! Tempted to try sex, but don't know if I can be bothered!
Love to all!xxx

Please keep us posted, you can't be in that much pain yet!!!!!!

HelloMama · 30/07/2004 19:38

LOL Lupe at your list! Oh I recognise those things too!

Hi Toothache, I'm kind of in the same situation as you! I had a sweep done yesterday (Thursday morning) and I'm 2cm dilated as well. Since late this afternoon I've been having quite painful 'tightenings' (not sure if BH or the elusive contraction)! Anyway, am sitting here waiting and feeling a mixture of excitement and fear! Otherwise I'm very chilled and just getting on with things and having a few ideas planned for each day to keep me busy. I hope you are all ok. Speak soon!

HelloMama · 31/07/2004 08:31

Ouch - so is this what labour feels like????! I think its finally happening to me, these aren't no BH! I've not really slept well. I was having very strong BH last night literally every 10 minutes but they died off when we went to bed, but since I've woken this morning they have been soooo painful and are coming about every 15 minutes! DH still in bed asleep, lucky thing! I've just taken paracetamol and managed to wash hair so I'm going to see how things go. Will let you know how things are later (if I can!)

Quackers · 31/07/2004 13:41

Good hellomama, sounds like this is it for you then!!!!!!
I have had nothing nthing and more of nothing since that 'false labour' on Thursday night. I just am so frustrated as it felt so real. Hope it happens soon. xxxx

HelloMama nd Toothache, any news??

HelloMama · 01/08/2004 17:23

Introducing baby Ruben who was born yesterday! He was 3 days overdue but when he decided the time was right, he wasn't hanging around! We stayed at home as long as we could and on admission to hospital I was 9.5cm dilated, wow! I ended up having the most incredible waterbirth with a bit of gas and air and it truly was my dream birth. The midwives were amazing, they read our birth plan and did everything we asked for. I just couldn't believe it! Weighing in at a collosal 9 pounds 2 ounces, so far he is feeding well. Unfortunately i did end up with a bad 2nd degree tear which was very traumatic having it sorted out afterwards, but i think he was worth it! All I can say was, it really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be... and no, I didn't get to eat any of the snacks I had carefully chosen to eat during labour, or use any of the special massage oils! Maybe next time.....!

Angeliz · 01/08/2004 17:45

HelloMam, huge CONGRATULATIONS and what a lovely birth story!!

GORGEOUS name too++++++++++++++++++==

Quackers · 01/08/2004 20:01

I'm so pleased for you!!!!!! I really am! What a wonderful story!!! So glad you got the birth you wanted!! Enjoy him - all 9 pounds odd!! xxx

Is there anyone else besides me waiting now?????? Knew I'd be last!! We're all late babies in our family!!!! So I'm now an August mum to be!!! Having my sweep on Wednesday and full induction Thursday if that gives no action!

Lupe · 01/08/2004 21:30

Hi Quackers

No, I'm keeping the thread going too... Either 8 days overdue (according to official EDD) or 3 days overdue according to my calculations and the first scan (which the midwife agreed was a feasible date to take into account).

MW visit tomorrow to discuss what I want to do and when - I'm anxious to avoid the induction route so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and doing as much walking as possible to see if that will hurry things up. Getting lots of BHs in the evening and twinges down below but nothing else yet.

I'm now receiving calls and emails from just about everyone I've ever met asking if I 'haven't had it yet'!! aaargh!!

Anyway, all the best to you - bet I'm going to be last!

Congratulations Hello Mama - that was nearly "our" name if ours was a boy! Sounds like your experience was really positive, I'm really happy for you.

Guard · 01/08/2004 21:34

Have you tried raspberry leaf tablets and caulophyllum - recommended by my MW (worked for me and a mate - DD2 was 2 days early and friend had girl 7 days early) - got to be better than induction ?

sponge · 02/08/2004 08:29

Hi Lupe.
Quackers has come over to the August thread as she was getting lonely. Do you want to join us too?

Quackers · 02/08/2004 10:19

Hi Lupe! Sounds pretty much like me, getting the BH's in the evening and some period type cramps occasionally but nothing. I expected it I suppose as DD was late. Think they like a bit more time to mature! I'm 6 days over no. Sweep on Wednesday, then induction Thurs. I asked for induction 9 days over as I did this with DD. She was a very small baby so they prefer to get them sooner rather than later. This baby is looking normal size, which is good, but just want to be cautious, in case. I had a sweep last time and it broke my waters and had to have prostin gel to establish labour, but it was fine and labour was 1 hour 40 mins. It would be so nice to go into labour myself though.
Anyway, I flick between here and August thread until we deliver! Good luck with the m/w, if I don;t speak to you before, but I'll be logging on a couple of times today! Take care Quacks xxx

Okay, I'm off to the August thread!

MW came round today, she was great - really relaxed and relaxing and we are using my later date which means I'm only 5 days over. All signs are good though, babe in LOA and head well down and I've been getting quite painful period type and backache all day today (strong enough to make me take paracetamol and stop me in my tracks in Tesco!).

haven't tried the raspberry leaf tea tablets but have been taking the tea.

see you in August Quackers - and thanks for the invite Sponge!

BigBird · 05/08/2004 14:40

Quackers - just caught up with this so GOOD LUCK TODAY

Quackers · 11/08/2004 10:47

Just a quickie, for those who don;t know, my birth announcement is posted! Safe arrival of Georgina Kate last Thurs!!! Hope all you Mums are doing well!!
