Morning sickness...or lack of.

I have been extremely lucky in both my pregnancy’s in that I never had morning sickness with either. My step mum was the same. It seems that we are many a few. I’ve spoken to many pregnant women since my son was born 10 years ago and when I tell them I never had morning sickness it’s like an unknown concept. Some have even indirectly suggested that I didn’t have a proper pregnancy because of this. I didn’t really pay too much attention, as in my opinion is totally BS. But as I speak to more and more people I’ve noticed that I’m literally one of a few that never had it. Anyone else never had morning sickness.

I never had morning sickness, very healthy pregnancies.

Enjoy it. If you’re one of the glowing happy ones, enjoy it.

I had hyperemesis with 1 and am going down the same route with 2. Vomiting constantly, exhausted, sick and malnourished.

Roughly 80-90% of women get nausea at some point so yes, you’re very much in the minority. Unfair of anyone to criticise you for it. It’s not exactly something one can help.

Well I had healthy pregnancy’s. Except for the extra monthly blood tests I had to have due to a medical condition. I do feel sorry for people with morning sickness as I literally have a fear of being sick. But I’m not gonna lie I’m glad I never got it. I did get nausea when pregnant with my 2nd. Only in the first 3 months wasn’t bad maybe once a week. I didn’t know about my first until I was 3 weeks as still had period.

I threw up once before I even knew I was pregnant after downing a glass of water, but since then nothing, not even nausea. Only first pregnancy. Quite glad as I hate dealing with sick and have always had a very strong stomach. I do drink a shit load of peppermint tea which I know is good for the stomach which may have helped?

I think a lot of people just get nausea - that's still morning sickness.

Some have even indirectly suggested that I didn’t have a proper pregnancy because of this sounds like envy to me
I wasn’t sick or nauseous at all, except early in my second pregnancy before I lost what might possibly have been a twin at about 7 weeks. No nausea after that. Definitely 2 ‘proper’ pregnancies though- they’re 12 and 9 now.

One pregnancy at age 41, no morning sickness and healthy boy at the end. Strange folk that say you've not had a proper pregnancy because of no sickness. Would probably say the same about me as I had to have an emergency c-section. Some strange folk out there 😃🙄

I still say nausea is different o actual morning sickness. I never had any with my first. The only way I knew I was pregnant was I felt some movement. Probably is envy. My step mum was the same and she’s had 4 kids. I’m highly grateful I didn’t, that was always a worry when I was pregnant with my second, because I didn’t have it with the first I thought for sure I would for the 2nd.

I feel the same I'm 7+2 felt horrendous at 5+4 but it passed. Not been sick or feel it I even bought some more pregnancy tests today even though its been confirmed at docs xx

I've never had any either. I think it is more common to feel rubbish than not to be honest but ive always been fortunate enough to sail through the first trimester. Still a proper pregnancy though. People are just jealous. I do know a fair few people who didn't suffer though so it's not totally unheard of.

I had morning sickness with my other pregnancies but I haven't had any with this one yet. I'm currently 7+4 and I'm pretty sure I was having morning sickness at this point in my other pregnancies.

If you had morning sickness in past pregnancies but then don't have it in a subsequent pregnancy, is that an indicator that there is something wrong? I just thought it would be the same as the others seeing as it's happening in the same body

I didn't have any either. I did worry at the start that it was a sign of things not progressing but I had a very healthy, enjoyable pregnancy. I know I'm one of the lucky few!

It’s interesting because most women I know only had a touch of nausea which went away after a few weeks.

I was throwing up from morning until night my entire pregnancy.

There’s no virtue in being sick. . It’s just one of those things, affects some people and not others.

No sickness, i had a bit of nausea one morning for about a min and that was it, very healthy pregnancy and much to the annoyance of one of my friends who was pregnant the same time who went 8days over, i gave birth two weeks early!
Hoping for a trouble free pregnancy when we conceive number 2.

Pennywhistle - me too. For both pregnancies (DS2 is 4 weeks old). I can honestly say that pregnancy has easily been the worst part of my life so far, because of the constant vomiting. I have lost 18 months of my life on the bathroom floor because of it and it drove me to depression both times. So count yourself lucky OP!!

No morning sickness at all is perfectly normal, though not typical (but not rare either - 70-80% of women have it, so a pretty hefty minority don't) - but if you had nausea that is morning sickness. Only around half of pregnant women are actually sick, so it's definitely not at all unusual to feel but not be sick.

It's made to be a huge thing in the media (where vomiting is used as the sign a character is pregnant) and, understandably, women who get very ill are more likely to talk about it because it was a big thing in their life. Women who are just fine don't have much to contribute on the topic so don't really talk about it. Both of these things make vomiting in pregnancy seem a lot more ubiquitous than it is.

It also should be noted that several of my friends who either didn’t have morning sickness or only had a touch suffered from other things that I didn’t have eg high blood pressure, fainting, swollen ankles, SPD etc etc.

Peoples’ bodies react differently.

A few lucky people sail through - there’s no such thing as a “proper” pregnancy.

Im now nearly 19 weeks and had no morning sickness at all. Felt sick a few times of a night but it passed very quickly! x

OP, nausea is morning sickness. The correct medical term is NVP - nausea and vomiting of pregnancy. It’s a scale that goes from a mild touch of the queasies to life threatening hyperemesis. But yes, nausea is morning sickness.

If you had morning sickness in past pregnancies but then don't have it in a subsequent pregnancy, is that an indicator that there is something wrong?

Not a concrete one. Every pregnancy is different. You might just be lucky this time. I had a miscarriage this year and the sickness (which was severe) stopping was one sign. But just no sickness from the start doesn’t mean something is wrong.
Strong NVP is associated with better outcomes - probably because it’s driven by a ‘vigourous’ placenta and that in itself is a positive indicator. However it isn’t always - high hcg is often seen in Downsyndrome pregnancies and molar pregnancies too.

So its probably just luck and you should enjoy it!

I didn't have any morning sickness with my son 20 years ago. I have all day sickness currently.

Don't take notice sweetie. I had my first son 11 years ago, I was sick once in the whole 42 weeks. He was 9lb1oz at birth. No issues with his pregnancy at all. Infact he was the best pregnancy I had.
