I had my blood checked at 8 weeks pregnant and my results came back last week and my iron was 12.5, I’m now 17+ weeks and feel dreadful !!! Sooooo tried all the time, headaches, so thirsty and sooooo breathless, I called my midwife today and asked if maybe she can check my bloods and also I cut my fingner two days ago on some paper and my blood was very thin and wouldn’t stop bleeding! It’s not usually thin like that. So I’m worried my iron may be very low!! Would 12.5 in early pregnancy be a concern and a risk for it getting a lot lower? I get my bloods checked tomorrow

Mine was 12 when I wasn't even pregnant and I can remember how poorly it made me feel! Hopefully they will start you on some treatment and you will improve. I remember having treatment made me so much better.

12.5 is great and wouldn't be reason for concern, but just because it was 12.5 at one point, doesn't mean it isn't low now. That said, all those things are fairly par for the course in pregnancy and not necessarily an indication of low iron. The intense thirst could be a sign of GD more than anything. But no reason not to get it checked. If it's fine, it will be reassuring, and if it isn't, then better you know sooner. Do you take extra iron? Certainly, might be helpful to make sure you are getting plenty of B vitamins and iron to help with exhaustion even if it isn't technically 'low'.

12.5 is very good. In pregnancy, treatment isn't started until under 10.5 but in your shoes I'd definitely ask for a repeat blood test to see if it's changed - a lot can change in 9 weeks. Hope you start feeling better soon.

Usually they only have any concern when it dips below 10. Mine was 6 postnatally when I had my dd and I did feel very ill (heart palpatations, breathlessness, could barely walk 20 feet without passing out, etc.). But about a week of iron tablets and I felt fine again.

I had a level that low in pregnancy managed to get it up by eating more iron rich food, broccoli and steak was my fav. Didn't want to take iron tablets!

My iron level is 11 and I'm 31 weeks. I've been started on a course of supplements. It's worth asking about.
