Hey,

I just wondered if anyone has had to call glasgow queen Elizabeth EPU recently. They have a voice mail now and just don’t call you back.

Their message says leave your name and number to get someone to call you back on another line.

I called yesterday and today and no reply. Do I just keep calling until they phone me back?

@trippingoverrainbows
Call them again later and start the message saying ‘ I have called a few times and had no answer it would be great to speak to someone.
They picked up the phone while I was leaving that message and I got booked in for a 7 weeks scan.
I know they prefer dr referral but you can self refer x

@squiglyline I don't think it even rang at all last time, just straight to voicemail. Is the number operated at weekends? I'll take your advice and call back in a couple of hours, thanks

squiglyline · 10/02/2018 11:57

@trippingoverrainbows
It is manned on a Saturday and on a Sunday it’s a different number you call.
Just keep calling and leaving messages and say you’ve been trying to get through for ages and no one has called back. They said to me someone had phoned and left a voice mail on my phone but I don’t have an activated voicemail.

@squiglyline how long from calling is it until the scan date they gave you? I have a dr referral already so I might mention that when I call

squiglyline · 10/02/2018 14:35

@trippingoverrainbows
In Oct I was seen 2 days later.
I was told then the next time I was pregnant to call and book in for a 7 weeks scan so I called and got an appointment for the day I turn 7weeks x

Thanks @squiglyline I've managed to get an appt for Tuesday thanks so much for your info! I can't find any info on the website about how you get to the unit, is it in the main building of QEUH?

squiglyline · 11/02/2018 20:42

@trippingoverrainbows

You go in the maternity entrance which is on the back left corner of the building if your looking at it from the main entrance.

There is a reception desk when you go in and they will give you directions.

Take a magazine or something with you. We waiting for an hour after the appointment time to be seen.

Let me know how you get on. I’ll be thinking of you x

Thanks so much @squiglyline I'll update you on Tuesday. Worried but will be glad to know either way, fingers are firmly crossed in the meantime

trippingoverrainbows · 13/02/2018 17:58

@squiglyline had my scan this morning and all seems to be well. I'm around 6 weeks :-)

squiglyline · 13/02/2018 19:08

@trippingoverrainbows
I’m so glad all is okay! I have to wait until the 22nd for mine. I’m 5w5d just now. X

squiglyline · 22/02/2018 11:40

@trippingoverrainbows

I had my scan this morning. 7 weeks to the day and we saw a little heart beat fluttering away 😁

OP posts:
trippingoverrainbows · 22/02/2018 12:43

Awww @squiglyline congratulations!!! This is very exciting. I am only a couple of days ahead of you then. Did they give you a due date?

squiglyline · 22/02/2018 12:53

@trippingoverrainbows
No they said it was too early to give a due date but they would at 12 week scan. My app says 11th Oct. what about you? X

How are you ladies doing?

😊

squiglyline · 22/02/2018 17:10

@gryffen
I’m great we saw our little baby today and the heart beat too!

I have a mid wife app on the 15th so will speak to her then about hospital choices.

Can I ask where you looked for patient reviews? I’d like to have a read x

gryffen · 22/02/2018 17:23

Hiya and YAY!

www.careopinion.org.uk/services/sj9qe-501

These are some of them but look up CareOpinions on Google for older ones - it's a weird site but reviews that are shared by woman.

Also mumnet and netmums have reviews too.

Hope that helps?

Also you can contact the actual hospital for reviews etc

trippingoverrainbows · 22/02/2018 20:25

Hi @gryffen I'm doing well too thanks. I had a scan on tues of last week. All looking well was 6 weeks and saw a heartbeat also which was really reassuring. @squiglyline that's what they said to me also so I've just been guessing a due day at 8th Oct. I also have my booking appt on 15th March then scan on the 20th

squiglyline · 22/02/2018 20:48

@trippingoverrainbows

I booked a private scan on the 15th for after our booking in app as it’s my DH birthday and I wanted to surprise him with it after we go for lunch.

Our 12 week scan is on the 3rd April 😞 can’t wait that long to see baby again!

Our booking in is at the Vicky. So much easier to get there in the morning than to the other side of Glasgow like this morning.

@gryffen @trippingoverrainbows
Have either of you looked into antenatal classes yet? The daisy classes have been recommended I’m going to look into them.

OP posts:
trippingoverrainbows · 22/02/2018 21:11

@squiglyline I don't blame you for booking the private scan, I don't think I'll be able to wait til my 12 week scan either! I haven't looked into any classes, il so clueless. Don't the NHS have ones?

gryffen · 22/02/2018 21:25

Hiya- good to hear your both doing well.

No I refuse to pay for classes the NHS run free and many NCT type classes are full of pickled gits who judge you on sight then you don't get to join the club if your face don't match.

(Sorry - can you tell I've had a bad experience).

Those type of classes are no good anyway if your consultant led - the classes at NHS go from heaven to hell on earth and well worth attending so if complications do happen you know what's going on.

(Sorry again - really had bad experience).

My 20 week scan is 29th march - these 8 weeks between scans are killing us but pretty sure I'm feeling rolling about the place 🤣

squiglyline · 22/02/2018 21:41

@trippingoverrainbows I booked into a scanning place on Ingram street in town. It’s just down from corinthian. It’s £39 and you get pics and a video too I think.

I think I’ll need to book in for a few during pregnancy as I’m too impatient to be waiting 8 weeks between the scans. A friend of mine said that your meant to get a free extra scan when you want it on the NHS but they don’t offer it to you you need to ask for it.

I’ve booked in to try reiki in a couple of weeks. And I will likely try a few different options for antenatal classes to see what feels right for us.

@gryffen I had to stop reading the reviews earlier 🙈 I think I’m going to have nightmares tonight.

OP posts:
gryffen · 22/02/2018 23:35

Eeek!

And again sorry for rant up there.

Reviews can be biased and imho I've never had an issue with RAH but have done with QEUH due to contact etc - that's the stickler for me - if I can't make contact your no good to me.

By all means keep option open and ask for a tour of the place, only place you can't go is the consultant led rooms due to contamination etc.

I know on YouTube they did a few videos of the maternity services so you can look up "having a baby" nd tag Southern General Hospital.

I know the place in Ingram is good but the free scan on NHS is consultant referal only and they ask for your pathway if you say you have an appointment etc.
