Waking up with ear pain from sleeping on it?? Anybody else?

Hi everyone,
Has anybody else experienced this? Every night (multiple times) I’m waking up with my ear (whichever I’m led on at the time) plus my jaw if I’m led on that throbbing in pain. It’s painful to touch... so I turn over and an hour later the same on the other side.

What is this madness? Is this pregnancy related or just something else? I’ve never had this before

( I mean the cartilage part of the ear, not inside it)

How far are you ? I had it at the beginning. Ended up removing a piercing I had had for 20 years. Seems like after 20w it did stop hurting me. Now I’ve got pain on tights for sleeping on them Angry

I’m 25 weeks and don’t have any piercings in, it’s only started for the past few days (the past few days I’ve been sleeping better than usual as I’ve babygated my Saint Bernard out of my bedroom).

I’m wondering if it’s because I’m not moving as much as I usually do during sleep? I usually wake at least once an hour and have done for years, at the moment I’m going two hours sometimes and then my dog usually wakes me up from the hallway as he’s dreaming or something equally as annoying and my ear feels like I’ve been crushing it. It’s just awful

Yes, it's a thing - auricular chondritis. Gets better when you deliver.

Yes, I get this too! It's not happened for a while but I've woken up a few times with the cartilage part of my ear hurting! I'm 20 weeks now.

MamaDuckling · 06/02/2018 11:36

Yep, had this too.

I had bad jaw as a teenage and when I've done activities such as scuba diving. In pregnant people it's also to do with he production of the relaxin hormone, making all your joints a little looser - can affect the jaw too!

Ljgstorm · 06/02/2018 11:37

I had this throughout my pregnancy. I would wake up with my ear and jaw really hurting but my dd is 3 months now and it hasn't happened for ages.

BigBaboonBum · 06/02/2018 12:15

Ahh, thank you for the replies. It’s a relief to know that this is normal. My left ear is still hurting hours after waking up (only to touch).
Weirdly enough I do suffer from awful jaw pain in general and since I was about 7-8 weeks pregnant that has completely gone (touch wood) and now I’m just getting this kind of pain when I lie on it, but mostly it’s my ear

I have had this for about 10 weeks now! I have earache every day and i just cant shift it! Only hurts when i eat or sleep, doctor said its is impacted and gave me ear drops but they havent worked x

Twitchett22 · 06/02/2018 12:49

I had this before pregnancy too! I dont know why or how to fix it but its a massive pain in the arse. I lie on one side and my ear hurts, then i swap to the other side and my hip hurts Hmm

BigBaboonBum · 06/02/2018 12:59

@Twitchett22 I’ve had the hip pain since earlier on, especially on my left side. I’ve never had this much trouble sleeping in previous pregnancies, it’s proving a real task to find a position I’m not numb, tingling or in pain with

Me too! I had to take my rook piercing out yesterday as I couldn't cope with it hurting!

It didn't occur to me it might be a thing

SingaVera · 06/02/2018 13:46

Twitchett22, I had this long before the pregnancy too. Only on one side. So uncomfortable. I also have a painful hip (tendon issues) but that is an ongoing issue rather than sporadic... wonder if it's related?

AlmostCrawling · 06/02/2018 14:14

Oh I used to get this actually forgot about it as it's not happened for ages so guessing it must have been a pregnancy thing for me as well. I didn't even think at the time it could be pregnancy related how strange I wonder what causes it.
