Woke up sleeping on my stomach - is this safe at 20 weeks?

I know that sleeping on your back is not recommended but I don’t know about stomach sleeping... I am sure things are ok as I have felt baby move this morning but I now worried about how long I slept in this position last night.

Plus, I’m not usually a stomach sleeper but for some reason I’m starting to wake up more often in this position during my pregnancy. I may have to invest in one of those support pillows to help me sleep on my side more.

Anyone know whether stomach sleeping position is ok?

If it was comfy for you then it was fine. You wouldn't be able to do it if your bump was big enough to be a problem.

I'm a stomach sleep still at almost 24 weeks. Midwife said as long as it's comfortable it's fine.

The problem with sleeping on your back is after about 27 weeks, nd it's to do with baby lying on an artery and potentially blocking it's blood supply.

I woke on my belly at 36weeks. I didn't dose off until 4am and obvs rolled over. I have a pretty big bump too. Altho hard to explain I had my knees kind of pushing me up a little so maybe subconsciously I knew? I will say Omg it was the best sleep ever! Lol

Thank you everyone! I’m sure it was all good - I don’t remember sleeping on my stomach much during my last pregnancy but then that was 7 years ago! Shock I think I will be better sleeping on my side as bump gets bigger though. I’m sure subconsciously you move into whatever is the most comfortable position in the night.

It's absolutely fine. I'm 33 weeks and still sleep on my stomach (in a similar position to PP who uses a knee to wedge into the bed so the bump has room). I'm finding my hips hurting wakes me so I have to take the pressure off them.

27 weeks and also stomach sleeping, same as ladies above, have my knee supporting me. Difficult to explain really! It’s fine though, baby has plenty of padding and won’t be squashed.

Yes. By the time it would be a problem it will be physically impossible.

I’m 38 weeks and still sleep as close to on my front as I can comfortably get. Usually about 70% on my belly with the help of pillows and a well placed leg. Whatever gets you some sleep!

DS used to let me know when he was squashed. I'm a stomach sleeper, got to about 26 weeks and woke up to DS thumping me, I was clearly squashing him!
