Last 2 pregnancies i have heard heartbeat but i've heard they've stopped now, is that right? I could really do with hearing it, can i plead if they don't?

I had mine the other day. I was actually 15+6 but the midwife listened anyway. She wanted that it might be difficult to find but actually got it straight away which was lovely to hear.
They may vary but it's certainly worth an ask.

My midwife never listened to my babies throughout the whole pregnancy.

Lemontwist · 05/02/2018 21:32

*warned not wanted

cornishmumtobe · 05/02/2018 21:38

My midwife listens to the heartbeat at every single appointment and has done from my 16 week appointment Smile

cornishmumtobe · 05/02/2018 21:38

Oh and am I'm now 39+4 so lots of appointments Grin

zaalitje · 05/02/2018 21:38

I think policy has changed, they're not supposed to listen at 16 weeks due to frequently not finding it and causing stress.

Some midwives will still listen though.

Helpful, thanks.

I don't think my midwife tried at 16 weeks. I think it was at 18 or 20.

Pittcuecothecookbook · 05/02/2018 21:56

Mine listened last month

Zebrasinpyjamas · 05/02/2018 21:59

I heard my baby's heartbeat at 16 weeks but the mw warned me it was common not to find it and that wasn't a worry if that happened. She said other midwives often don't try as it is hard to find but it was my choice to try or not.

nattergal · 05/02/2018 22:06

Mine listened to the heartbeat at 16 weeks. I told her I was surprised as I'd heard they don't do it and she said if I had been larger she wouldn't have done it as it makes it harder to find and can make people anxious

Lifeofpies · 05/02/2018 22:06

Mine did, but cautioned that if she couldn’t find it then all we could do is wait a week and try again. We did find it though (at 15w).

mollifly · 05/02/2018 22:16

Mine hasn't listed throughout pregnancy

Lj8893 · 05/02/2018 22:24

NICE guidelines state that routine appointments don't require listening to a fetal heartbeat so some mws/trusts don't listen in on routine apps.

Many do though. I always listen in on a 16 week appointment.

Ihatemarmite123 · 05/02/2018 22:40

With this pregnancy my mw tried and found heartbeat at 14+1 and again at 16 weeks. I'm high risk so they listen in every time I go. But she did warn me it may be too early

NickMarlow · 05/02/2018 22:44

Mine did today, I'm 16+2. She dod warn me it might me too early and it took a while to find it.
