32 weeks scan/low lying placenta

Just out of curiosity for those who've had a scan at 32 weeks after having a low lying placenta at the 20 weeks scan - did you only have an internal scan to check to see if the placenta had moved? Or was an external scan also carried out?

I did! And it was an external one. Was also informed that in 90% of cases the placenta moves by the time we have the 32w scan. It moved for me as well!

Thank you for the reply Smile
I was told that I'd be having another internal scan. Had DH questioning me tonight about whether we should ask the sex (I said no, standing my ground with this!) and then said that it's only an internal scan anyway. I then realised that I didn't actually know if that was true!

I had external then because the placenta was still low they did an internal to see more accurately where.

Great thanks :)
I assumed they'd just go straight to an internal scan!

It might vary but my hospital only did internal if they need to because then they have to get chaperone - I wasn't bothered but sonographer was male and said he needed to. Quite the audience with DH there as well!
Anyway if it's high or at the bottom like a pancake it'll be obvious from external scan. It's if they need measurements they'll do internal such as it's a few cm away and they can't tell how far.
That was my trust anyway but it might vary. Can't imagine they'd do an unnecessary intenal though.

I had an external scan but then had to have an internal scan too due to not being able to confirm on the external one where the placenta was exactly
