Incontinence Pants

I've seen incontinence pants being listed as a hospital bag necessity and I have a stupid question.

Are they for incontinence or for instead of the mattress sanitary towels?

First 48 hrs after having a baby they are almost 100% leak proof. Just much better than even the thick pads.
