Spotting after BFP - should I be worried?

I got my BFP 3 days ago and I've just noticed a small, bright red bleed when I went to the toilet - should I be worried? It's panicked me a bit as I thought implantation bleeds happened sooner than this?? Thanks xx

Hello! I’m afraid this could be ok or not ok, there’s no way to know for sure right now. Lots of women talk about having spotting and all is fine, for others it will be a sign of miscarriage. I’m sorry not to be more useful but my fingers are crossed for you. You could see if your EPAU will see you tomorrow to do blood tests to check your hCG is still rising. In some areas you can self-refer, in others you need to be referred by your GP x

I am 13 wks and have bled quite a bit. The first time there was lots of blood, I had a scan and they couldn't find a reason for it. I had another scan this week because I was spotting. Baby still fine but the nurse could see a little bleed on my uterus. She said it was nothing to worry about but tried to explain it by comparing to bubblegum. If you blow a bubble if it gets bigger you can get some holes where it stretches too much. Your uterus is stretching so might encounter some damage. Obviously there are many reasons for bleeding and sadly the worst can happen. I would suggest calling your nearest early pregnancy unit and schedule a scan. The worrying is awful, you will feel better if you know either way what's happening. Good luck x

I'm sorry but there's no way of knowing if this is ok or not, at this stage. Even if you had an early pregnancy scan (which they couldn't do at this stage), there would be nothing to see.

I've had bleeding in 2 succesful pregnancies, but I've also had bleeding a few days after a +ve test, that ended in miscarriage. In the MC case, if you take a HPT (same type) in the next few days and the mark is weaker, then I'm afraid it's probably an early miscarriage.

@purplebows I've had a lot of spotting in the first 12 weeks. Like, I had some bleeding every day for weeks and weeks. I'm 14+2 now. I had implantation bleeding right when my period was due. You've not said how far along you are, but I think implantation can be up to six weeks. Some EPUs won't scan until six week. You could call them and ask, they give good advice.

Are you still bleeding or has it stopped?

I know how terrifying it is, and how much you'll be googling. Try and step away from google, it drove me mad for weeks and I wish I had been strong enough to step away.

Thank you for all your replies ladies. The not knowing is awful isn't it, I feel so anxious. So thanks for taking the time to comment.

@milney25 I'm only 4+2 so I don't think they'd be able to scan me or anything, but ringing for advice is a good idea. Thank you. I haven't had any more blood since, maybe 4 1/2 hours has passed and it was just that one wipe (sorry tmi). Is that a good sign do you think? The redness of the blood alarmed me to be honest.
I totally agree about the googling as well - it's just so hard to stop yourself isn't it! xx

@Pollaidh thanks for the suggestion to take another pregnancy test in a few days, I'll do that. I used an IC earlier tonight and the line was still strong so hopefully that's a good sign and I'll be able to compare in a few days time. Thanks xx

@purplebows I'm glad it's settled down, a little bleeding at 4+2 really can be implantation bleeding. It sounds very similar to what I had at that time. You are likely to know if it's turning into something more. Try and relax and see how you are tomorrow.

@milney25 thank you so much for commenting and putting me at ease. It's much appreciated ☺️ xx
