Hi all,

Can someone please give me some suggestions as to how to get rid of heart burn.

I'm going through gaviscon and Tums like nobodies business Sad. Been prescribed peptac liquid also doesn't work... intact I feel it increases slightly as you swallow the medicine.

Heart burn is so bad it's waking me up 7/8 times a night.

I'm 31 weeks

Thanks xxx

Renatadine on prescription from your gp
I'm suffering massively with heartburn and those tablets plus rennies help a bit.

Ranitidine or omeprazol from your GP

BunsOfAnarchy · 01/02/2018 23:09

I feel your pain! My GP wouldnt give me ranitidine but I've been prescribed omeprazole and it's helped tonnes. I no longer wake up choking on acid. And the general heartburn has calmed down.

Give it a try and best of luck x

Glass of milk
Orange rennies

These are your friends now!

BunsOfAnarchy · 01/02/2018 23:42

Oh yes of course milk too! Cheers @Rebeccaslicker

Second Rinatidine from the GP! Only thing that helped - gosh it was bad! Good luck OP!

BunnyTeapot · 02/02/2018 02:24

Chewing gum produces saliva which helps to neutralize it. It works a dream for me.
Milk.

Shehz21 · 02/02/2018 02:26

Another vote for ranitidine!

RestingButchFace · 02/02/2018 02:29

I was mainlining Gaviscon with dd2 having not suffered at all with dd1 eleven years previously. In the end my DM gave me some of her omezeprole (sp) as my GP said there was nothing except Gaviscon available. Did my research and necked them...heaven.

Dry crackers helped me

flowersWB · 02/02/2018 02:53

Rennies became my number one food stuff.

RubyBoots7 · 02/02/2018 08:01

Was exactly the same. Plus actually being sick in mouth or everywhere from the acid. Got to the point where it didn't even matter if I was lying down.

Dont suffer in silence as it's horrible and not everyone gets it so bad. Go to your GP as they can prescribe you something. I believe only omeprazole is technically recommended in pregnancy accordibf to NICE so that might be the first choice option. But I know lots of people have been prescribed ranatidine as well. Couldn't tell you the difference.

Medication made a huge difference. I still get it but it's manageable now, especially with some gaviscon after each meal.

There's lots of tips out there too about things that can make it worse (heartburn generally, not just pregnancy Hb). Like drinking liquids with food and that certain foods can trigger more acid etc. These things have helped me a little bit too (in combo with the other stuff).
