Possible infection, not well at 16 weeks

The past two weeks I’ve been feeling so exhausted and sick constantly. I’ve just had a family bereavement at the weekend which has added to my stress and after that I’ve just had a constant cough, high temp and high heart rate. I went to doctors yesterday and she thinks I have an infection but unsure where it’s coming from and prescribed antibiotics but I have been struggling for a couple of weeks now. When I asked about work/sickline she told me to self cert for the week and see how I am but I don’t think she was keen on giving a line but I’m unsure I’ll feel much better for next week. Anyway today I’ve started wondering is this affecting the baby as I’m constantly jerking when coughing and I worry the baby isn’t ok. My boobs haven’t been as sore as they have been. I’m probably being paranoid but with me feeling so run down I just hope all is ok. I had appt with midwife yesterday but she wasn’t really interested. No examination or anything and just went thru blood results

Well your midwife is a cow and if your worried call your EPU and get some advice or reassurance - I had that horrid cold a few weeks ago and it was deep cough temp etc but baby us well protected.

Defo self cert for 6 days but make appointment for Friday to get sickness line if not feeling great - just push for it.

Thank you.
She asked “are u feeling better now your further along” and I explained no I’m literally exhausted and constant nausea and just out of doctors and on antibiotics and I feel dreadful. She just said oh is it a cold u have then just brushed it off and went on to give results and that was it! I then asked if the antibiotics were safe when pregnant I just wanted double check and she just said yeh yeh it’s fine. Everyone has commented on how dreadful I’ve looked and I’ve been in bed past two days while my mum helps me out with my son.
Was thinking of giving EPU a phone tomorrow so I might just do that and hopefully they can reassure! Thank you

Hiya

Yeah defo give them a call and even if it's just reassurance then it's a big help to you so all is ok.

When I had the deep cough I curled up and held a pillow to belly (I was about 9 weeks at time) and it helped- I did feel like I pulled something and it ached but all was ok so just random muscle strain.

You get Calpol plugins that are amazing at helping to clear a headache and cold - Home Bargains and other shops have them and not cheapest bit they last for ages and smell great.

Hope all is well mama and rest up!

Thanks so much for your advice! I’ll get cuddled up into that pillow and see what I can pick up at shops to help clear this xx

Definitely call your EPU. Do NOT rely on your midwife.

Sorry to say I had something similar. Go was helpful, gave antibiotics. Midwife couldn't have been less interested and rude if she tried.

I got to the point where I thought I was being a drama queen and didn't want to hassle people. Do not do this and follow it up. I didn't and ended up in early labour with a temperature and lost my daughter. I'm sure you'll be fine, but do look after yourself. Good luck and I hope you get better soon.

I’m so sorry u had to go thru that and I’m so so sorry for your loss! That’s exactly what it’s made me feel like, like im making a mountain out of a molehill and don’t want to be a pest! Thank you. I’ll phone tomorrow and see what they say.

Ah thank you. I hope you're well and being well looked after! Honestly, if I've learned anything, it is to not care about what anyone else thinks. Best of luck to you. x
