So this is my third pregnancy and I’m 13 weeks. My initial midwife appt wasn’t with the usual one as she was off so full history taken by locum - she classed me as high risk due to being anemic in my previous pregnancies and suffering from extensive bloodloss... fair enough. Went for my scan last week and was booked to see a dr, dr mentioned nothing of the blood loss rather another health issue (I had a gastric band 3 yrs ago)
Been to midwifes today (now the usual one) and explained this to her, she said I was classed as high risk as the gestational weight for my previous 2 was low Hmm they’re 10 and 14 now and perfectly ‘normal’ weights and also my gastric band however the dr said it would cause no problems!
So I’m now booking in for extra scans and appointments and feel like I’m still not any the wiser. Should I just leave them to it or continue questioning it?
Thanks for reading

Hiya lass

I had a gastric sleeve in April and I'm classed as high risk too due to the risk of low weight due to the bariatric surgery. It's all down to the nutrition we take in how well we absorb and if we are sick due to dumping or restriction being too tight etc.

Apparently it's in the small print our surgeons gave us which is why for 18 months after surgery we aren't meant to get pregnant.

If you are consultant based for this or anemia (I had same with first pregnancy due to haemoglobin of 50 weeks before I found out) then don't panic- yes a few options for birth are out but it means extra scans and care.

Thanks love,

I was starting to climb the walls - I think it’s because everything has changed has much since 11 years ago when I was last pregnant and the inconsistency between midwifes and drs Confused

Did you also have to test for diabetes?

Hiya

Yeah at 22 and 30 weeks I had the dreaded Lucozade test and it was fine, not sure about this time as Lucozade makes me violently sick and is a total slider drink so yuck!

You maybe recommended to get your band emptied while pregnant and depending where your port is they will recommend gentle massage for the skin.

Don't be too surprised if they send you to an dietician to ensure your eating right and what your calories are in daily.

Good luck 😊
