Braxton Hicks or labour?

I've had constant lower back pain and abdominal pain since 5 am with contractions coming and going. There's no real pattern to the contractions but they're a mixture of moderate and severe.

I'm guessing it's Braxton Hicks but do they normally last this long?

I've had no waters break or loss of mucus plug

It could be the start or it might tail off and just be your body starting to get ready.
How many weeks are you?
I had hours of on off contraction for a week before ds was born it was so disheartening as everytime I thought this is it. In the end I just tried to carry on as normal. He was my fourth and obviously didn't get the memo that he was just supposed to fly out
My waters didn't break with any of them until I was about 8cms with one and the others they had to be broken. I also never lost my plug or had any kind of show so don't rely on these things as signs of labour If I had I would have delivered on the kitchen floor

And omg that sounds intense! I hope it doesn't go on for a week lol
