Early scan after previous ectopic

Hi there,
I haven't posted before! In September I was 6w pregnant when I fount out it was ectopic, and had the methatroxate jab. I have just found out I am pregnant again and was immediately nervous about it being ectopic. I asked for an early scan, which they did at 4w6d, an internal scan, and they saw nothing in the womb. They did pick up something in the fallopian tube but they said it could be a number of things, it wasn't necessarily an ectopic and could have been left over from the one before. Has anyone else had a similar experience? She showed me the scan and it just looked like a round 'patch'. I had my blood test and hcg levels were 390, going back in tomorrow for another one. Any thoughts would be so welcome! thank you.

Hi mac20, haven’t had exactly the same experience but wanted to offer a hand-hold - I too had an ectopic in September, it was our first pregnancy after trying two years and it was so hard to come to terms with. So I’m really sorry you’ve been through that. I’m now pregnant again (5 weeks only) and have had lots of pain and worry although my hCG levels are going up well so far.

I wanted to say; it’s very very early to see anything in the uterus on the scan at your stage so stay hopeful! As to the object in the tube, did the doctor or nurse say it might be leftover product from before? I’ve been having lot of pain in the area of my previous ectopic and I think it might be scar tissue. Wishing you luck!

Previous ectopic here, but in both subsequent pregnancies a scan around 6 weeks showed something in the right place. With DS1 I had to go back 2 weeks later, as no heartbeat was seen. With DS2 a heartbeat was already visible at 6 weeks.
Under 5 weeks is very early to scan. I'd have thought you'd get more info from a blood test? I hope you get good news when you go back, but bare in mind it may take a few more visits to get an answer. Good luck with your journey - the 2 weeks after getting a positive until i was scanned seemed like a very long fortnight.

I’ve just remembered as well, the EPAU nurse said to me that until hCG levels are around 1000, you won’t see anything in the uterus on a scan. If yours was 390 yesterday it should be about 780 tomorrow and therefore well over a thousand by next week so you might have more luck then! As SandLand said, it’s awful waiting but it won’t be many days until you know one way or the other x

Thank you both! Yes she said it could be leftover from before, which I am hoping! I go back for second bloods tomorrow so fingers crossed!

Lots of reason to be positive then as:

A) you wouldn’t clinically expect to see anything in the uterus at your hCG level, which doesn’t mean it isn’t there, and
B) the nurse and doctors in EP wards are very matter-of-fact, though lovely, and they wouldn’t say it could be from before if that wasn’t a likely diagnosis!

I know it’s so hard but try to think positive. And keep us updated if you want to!

Thank you for your support! I will of course keep you updated!

Hope all is well today, mac20.

Sadly they said it was another ectopic when I went in yesterday. They didn't see a sac though but she was sure. Still hoping that I'll back tomorrow and she will have made a mistake! Now needing to decide whether to have to jab or surgery. I am thinking surgery as it seems that tube is not functioning properly.

Ah I’m so sorry you’re going through this. There was a poster on a different thread here the other day who also had two ectopics and went on to have two healthy pregnancies afterwards. I know that won’t help you right now though. Thinking of you, sorry for your loss x

A strange turn of events! I went in this morning for bloods and another scan, and to have surgery. They found a pregnancy in the uterus! Cannot believe it. They think the mass is left over from last time or could maybe be a second ectopic pregnancy, so I need to go in again on Thursday for another scan. Can't quite believe this and am trying so hard not to be too excited in case it goes wrong again. But there is hope for everyone!

&mac20 oh my goodness! I did actually hope that might happen when I read your post - I’ve heard similar stories before - but I didn’t want to say it and get your hopes up. Fingers and toes crossed for you, wouldn’t it be amazing if it all turned out well!! So hoping it does x

Marriageoftrueminds · 31/01/2018 19:25

Good luck for tomorrow! I have an early pregnancy scan tomorrow too. Hope it’s good news for us both!

Marriageoftrueminds · 02/02/2018 21:47

@mac20 how did the scan go? Hope it’s good news x
