The flu

I’m having a minor panic at work. Two people I work closely with have had the flu and they both keep trying to come in even though they are still really ill. What happens if I get it? I’m only 5+4 but don’t want to harm the little dot :-( anyone had any experience of having it and all being ok?

If they are managing to actually come in to work it's unlikely they have the flu, maybe really heavy colds. If you're worried maybe you could speak to a manager or HR.
Just make sure you keep washing your hands and try not to be too near to them.

Have you had your jab OP?

Pugsleypugs · 26/01/2018 08:15

If they're in work they don't have flu, they'll just have a cold.

It's bad form for them to come in with a cold anyway so just stay away from them as much as possible and make sure you're washing your hands / anti'baccing as much as necessary.

Unfortunately if you get a cold you get a cold and you'll just have to ride it out. I've had 3 so far this pregnancy.

If they really do have the actual flu, I personally would be avoiding them at all costs, even if you have had the jab. But HR should be telling them to stay home. If they just have a cold, then it's fine. I've had plenty of colds in pregnancy.

With actual flu it seems unlikely that they'd be in work tbh. With a heavy cold it would suck to catch it but it won't harm your pregnancy. Get your flu jag and practise good hand hygiene etc.

If you do get the flu you'll just feel like crap because you can't take any medication. It won't harm the baby.

BigBaboonBum · 26/01/2018 13:53

Flu is not good at all for pregnant women (baby will be fine), but they don’t have flu if they’re managing to come into work. Probably a really bad cold as a Pp said

Go get your jab - I had mine done at 5 weeks.

If they really had flu, they wouldn't entertain the idea of coming into work. It's just what people say when they have a cold, to justify to themselves that they're ill. It's a real big bear of mine.

I'm 15 weeks pregnant and have a horrendous cold, had to have today off work but it is manageable - despite no decongestant or lemsip Envy so if you happen to catch a cold, try not to worry.

Go get the jab asap.
Flu in pregnancy can be very serious, way worse than just feeling like crap.
