“Formal” name for Edie

Due in 3 months and struggling with names!

DD1 is Leyla Eden and suspect this one is a girl. Wishing we hadn’t used Eden as we both love the name Edie but DH insists on having a “formal” name that can be shortened to Edie. Any ideas beyond the obvious?

Would IBU to use Eden if it’s DD1’s middle name?

Thanks in advance! Smile

It’s meant to be short for Edith, why not that?

Thanks for the suggestions - not a fan of Edith for us - I like Edwina and Edna, DH doesn’t! Hmm

That's a shame. Has he any suggestions at all?

Knittedfairies · 23/01/2018 20:45

If you don't care for Edith, how about Meredith?

Youcouldbemysilversprings · 23/01/2018 20:49

Edele? Edeline? Edina? I’m not lying I made those last two up 😂

Haha @LineyS not yet! He thinks we will figure it out....which is why with DD we took 2 days post birth to decide....and got a load of hassle from my over excited Dad!

@youcouldbemy maybe but I’ve heard of them before! Edina would work...

@AnUtterIdiot I don’t think there is - DH requires persuading but not a definite no.

Am I right in thinking it’s not appropriate to “reuse” Eden (could create a new family name!? Wink)

Omg use Eden. My daughter is Eden and we have called her Edie for years now. I named her then 4 months later she had a cousin called Eden and her dad used Eden for his second daughter. Eden is the most beautiful name :)

Apple23 · 24/01/2018 02:01

What about first and middle names beginning with E and D?

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 24/01/2018 02:18

Just use Edie! We were going to go with Edie, then dd was born in New Years Eve, so we ended up going with Evie, but don't see why you need a formal version of that's what she will be called

LadyB49 · 24/01/2018 02:24

My dgd is called Edee.
It's beautiful. We don't know of any other children with the same name.

ifigoup · 24/01/2018 02:36

Mildred
Iida

My friend used her DD1ms middle name as a first name for DD2. Not common to do but it doesn't happen. Sure it'll be ok if you did.

LolitaLempicka · 24/01/2018 04:57

Edie is a name in its own right, surely. Although I wouldn’t if I had already used Eden.

Duckstar · 24/01/2018 04:58

I’d go with Eden if you love it. My friends middle name is her younger sister’s first name. Her parents thought she was their last and 7 years later her sister turned up.

SilenceIsBroken · 24/01/2018 05:00

Just use Edie. What does she need a formal name for, an eventual marriage to a Duke?

eternalopt · 24/01/2018 05:07

Edina isn't made up - it's the name of Jennifer Saunders character in ab fab (probably not helpful sorry)

bokenkamp · 24/01/2018 06:03

Eadlynn

marmitecrumpets · 24/01/2018 06:06

Definitely use Eden.
It doesn't matter that it's a middle name for your first
