Headaches 37 weeks

I’m 37 weeks pregnant today and for the last few days been suffering from bad headaches. At first I thought it was from lack of sleep but I slept a lot better last night, woke up once and took paracetamol. However this morning my head hurts so much! Paracetamol isn’t doing much. Anyone any advice? :(

Could it be migraines? If I get one then my head aches for 2-3 days after and I really have to up my water intake. A little bit of caffeine is meant to be good too.

Call your midwife. It could be pre-eclampsia. A headache that doesn’t go away with paracetamol was on the ‘red alert’ list my midwife gave me (last year).

Go see the GP or Midwife TODAY

@catmummy1 I'm so glad you posted this. I have been feeling exactly the same for the last 24 hours. I'm 34 weeks today. Was actually just googling it as had pains low down when I was walking in the park yesterday too so was thinking I was out of sorts.

Terrible head on me this morning and in the night when I woke up. Luckily midwife tomorrow so will ask her too

chocolateorangeowls · 23/01/2018 09:29

Preeclampsia is dangerous for you and the baby, don't wait and get checked tomorrow get checked out today.

catmummy1 · 23/01/2018 09:57

I’ve just rang my antenatal unit and with just the headaches they aren’t concerned, which is good but god I’m fed up now.
Of course if anyone else has got other symptoms, please get checked .. each pregnancy is different.

Another thought, my sinuses flare up in pregnancy and I get tension headaches (throbbing like a hangover pain). Try a cold compress on your forehead, drink more water, then drink some more, make sure the air isn’t too dry (heating on too much in this house!). Not sure if its an old wives tale but apparently your footwear can give you headaches (if too tight) and avoid too much sugar. I only regularly got really bad migraines with sight loss when pregnant with one particular sex so I put it down to hormones. Water, rest, paracetamol and tea were all I tried but not sure if it helped or they went away on their own. All I can give you is my empathy!

endofthelinefinally · 23/01/2018 13:12

That is bad advice from your ante natal ward. How do they know you dont have high blood pressure or proteinuria if they have only spoken to you on the phone?

endofthelinefinally · 23/01/2018 13:13

How would you know unless you can check your own BP and test your own urine?
I am baffled.

I post this on every thread like this but it really worries me when people post about pre eclampsia symptoms. I had severe pre eclampsia and developed HELLP at 37 weeks. I had no symptoms at all even my blood pressure was normal. It was only picked up because I had protein in my urine and then a blood test confirmed it. None of the midwives expected it to come back PE because I felt so well and especially because of my blood pressure. I had to be induced straight away. Been told since that both me and the baby were very lucky if it had gone undetected any longer it could have been a different outcome. I don't mean to scare anyone with this post but I just want people to be aware that PE doesn't always come with symptoms and if you ever have any then get it checked out straight away and don't let them fob you off. I hope this isn't the case for you but I would demand a blood test.

I’m 19 weeks and suffering from the worst headaches atm. First thing my midwife did was get me in to check my BP and urine. Luckily they were normal, so I just have to put up with the bad head. 🤕

JaneEyre70 · 23/01/2018 18:56

I'd seriously phone 111 and get some advice. I had pre-eclampsia and it took hold very quickly. It's better to be safe than sorry.

catmummy1 · 23/01/2018 19:42

I had a trace of protein in my wee on Thursday at my last midwife appointment and I mentioned that on the phone too 😩 just hate feeling I’m wasting their time because I know how stretched they are. Baby is moving lots so that’s a comfort. My headache seems to be on and off. I’ll see how I go tonight and I’ll ring again in the morning if it’s still about. Thank you everyone.
