Sharp pains in my groin and hips, can’t walk!

Please can anyone say whether I should be a bit worried or not? I’m 36+4 and in absolute agony. I’ve had these shooting pains for a while now, but they’re much stronger today. My baby is 2/5 engaged so I’m expecting a fair amount of pressure, but this is way worse than it has been over the past few weeks...they’re sharp shooting pains down the inside of my groin and the outside of both hips, they’re taking my breath away and stopping me from walking! They’re also accompanied by stabbing pains in my “foof”!! I’ve also had what I’d describe as a dull period type pain today too. Should I worry or just take it easy??

Sounds like it could be SPD - which is a common but painful problem with your pelvic joints. But I think you should speak to your midwife if it is worrying you, I am sure they won't mind.

Thank you, I thought it may be that but I’ve never actually spoken to anyone who has had it so I wasn’t sure! I hope baby doesn’t arrive late if I have to put up with this pain for the next few weeks 😖

I have this. They call it PGP now, pelvic girdle pain. SPD is one type of PGP.

It's the ligaments, muscles and cartilage between the pelvic bones loosening up and letting the bones grind together. CRINGE!

Midwife offered me physio referral but I'm 36wks so trying to manage with just resting as it's meant to get better after birth. Hope so!

MsP0b ahhh see I was diagnosed with PGP at 16 weeks! It just felt different early on, it’s bloody awful now, thank god i’m on mat leave now 😅 good luck with managing yours, it’s horrendous isn’t it! Xx

It sounds like PGP to me too. I'm not pregnant now but it was horrendous so I really do sympathise. I did a lot of heavy lifting at work and it started at about 16 weeks. Took early mat leave due to it

Try and take it as easy as possible!! Mine vanished over night after the birth I think, I never felt the pains again. I didn't find any kind of cure, I tried to never stay in one position too long. I seemed to lock up and then have to get through the pain to regain some normality. Horrible thing, not many people understand/sympathise with it. hopefully it will disappear once you're baby is here like mine did!

Please do get advice as you need to be careful with positioning etc during labour and birth to make sure you recover afterwards.

And don't go pushing a massive pram around :(

The foof is lightning crotch! I had that. Sometimes I would just stop and take a sharp breath and my DH would freak thinking it was labour.
I would call the midwife though, just to set your mind at ease - and take it easy.

Thanks ladies, I’ve got a midwife appointment tomorrow so i’ll mention it then but I imagine she’ll just say the same as you all have!

englishnose - my fiancé also freaks every time it happens haha, I can’t help but let out little yelps when it happens!
