Mcflurrys in pregnancy

I've had a few McFlurrys throughout my pregnancy and did not realise they posed a risk of listeria??When I read on the internet it said all ingredients where made with pasteurised milk which I thought the problem was but I've later read that it's to do with the machine not being cleaned properly! Should I go to the gp and get tested for the infection?? It worries me as listeria does not have many symptoms Confused

They are not on the avoid list so i wouldn't worry at all. Those machines will be cleaned regularly.

I'm 39 weeks pregnant, obsessed with McFlurries and perfectly healthy.

YoloThankfully · 21/01/2018 18:20

They get cleaned through by the machine itself every day with boiling water. You'll be fine.

MorningstarMoon · 21/01/2018 18:31

The machines are scrubbed every day. Trust me I can never get a Mcflurry at 5 in the morning 😂

I had a McD's toffee sundae just yesterday...yummy!! Grin

Haha @MorningstarMoon 🤣Grin

I think most McDonald's have pretty stringent hygiene standards so I'd be fairly relaxed about McFlurrys. I'd be more cautious of a Mr Whippy from an ice cream van which might have slightly less scrupulous standards but they are in pretty short supply in January.

This seems to come up every couple of months tha someone thinks they’ve done themselves damage in pregnancy due to a McFlurry. They’re absolutely fine, not on any banned list, use pasteurised milk and are subject to the same hygiene precautions as other food sold in McDonalds. Who is telling all these people that it’s dangerous?

Twitchett22 · 21/01/2018 19:34

Oh my gosh I NEED a McFlurry now...

MiniMaxi · 21/01/2018 19:35

Can't say for sure a McFlurry is safe but as pp's have said I bet those machines are spotless. McD's can't afford the bad press.

Don't go getting a Mr Whippy though!

Girlwiththearabstrap · 21/01/2018 20:01

I'm sure the machines in McDonalds are fine, they'll be cleaned regularly. Listeria is pretty rare anyway, and McFlurrys use pasteurized milk.

I mean this in the nicest way but I've noticed so many food anxiety posts on here recently. Is this a fairly recent phenomenon? I feel like there's a lot of panic regarding food just now.

gryffen · 21/01/2018 20:45

I used to work at McDonald's and those machines were stripped cleaned by us reguary but I do warn caution having them as not everyone will be stringent as they take forever to clean.
Avoid KFC ice cream though, they just use warm water and no sanitizer

Buxbaum · 21/01/2018 20:49

I’ve noticed that too, girl. Granted, it’s been five years since my last pregnancy so I’ve been away a while but the Pregnancy board seems to be really dominated by a combination of food anxiety and nub theory posts...
