What the frig are fanny daggers all about?!

Im 34 weeks and all day today I've had the dreaded fanny daggers, jesus! Is there a point to them?! I just keep randomly saying oww outloud and it's bloody painful lol. Is it just babys head pushing down?

ROFL - I have never heard them called that, but I know exactly what you mean.. my cervix never ripened though.. or dilated, so dunno that I take that explanation.
