How far along?

Hi! I'm hoping for a little info please Smile

I found out a couple of weeks ago that I'm pregnant, which is very welcome news. But I'm really confused as to how far gone I should consider myself? (I have a midwife appt next week but even the doctor didn't like to put a date on it so I guess I won't know for sure until the scan).

Basically I have incredibly irregular periods. My last period began on 15th November, so technically I guess that makes me 9 weeks. But I'm almost certain I conceived on 13th December (we didn't get up to 'it' much that month!). So from conception, I'm 5 weeks. I use Ovia Pregnancy app and it considers me 7 weeks, and I've been thinking of it that way, as most women would have had their period around 2 weeks before ovulating.

Is this right or would I actually class as 9 weeks? But this would be misleading in terms of baby's week by week development, no?

Thanks in advance Smile

If you explain to your midwife that you believe you are either 7 or 9 weeks but cannot be sure she will go from the earliest date and just book you in for a dating scan, they will then tell you your exact due date :), I was also stuck between two dates and this is what she did with me , Although I got an early scan as worry sick and so impatient so found out exactly how far along I was before my dating scan!

Hope this helps :)

Your estimate sounds pretty reasonable, but it doesn't really matter as they'll date you at the 12 week scan and what they say there is the definitive EDD. That's what they'll then plan your care around and put in your MATB1.

If you get scanned too early because they treat you as 9 weeks now, so can't date it accurately, they'll just get you back in for another.

Ps, your due date is calculated from the first day of your last period, which in theory would be 2 weeks before conception, so if you conceived 5 weeks ago I would say you are now 7 weeks Smilex

Thanks both for your replies.

Yes that all makes sense. I'll explain all to the midwife and go with how she dates me. I'm just desperate to know as much as possible as soon as possible! So impatient! 😁

@spudlet7 I'm in a similar position - my lmp was towards end of October. When I had my (first) positive just over two weeks ago, based on lmp i was 11 weeks. I explained this to the midwife and although I'm pretty sure I'm not as far as that they had to go on the 11 weeks. Fast forward two weeks, I've had my booking in appointment, flu jab and have my "12 week scan" next weds. So a pretty full on 2 weeks!! I'm fully expecting them to say I'm only 7 weeks at the scan but at least we will know for sure. Just want to know how many weeks I am now! Good luck to you xx
