Movement at 21 weeks

I've been feeling what I'm sure is bub for about a week now, only the last 2-3 days have I noticed an amount of time I expect to feel bub through the day.

Today I think I've felt bub a lot less than the last 2-3 days. Is this something I should be notifying labour Ward about or am I still too early for that as baby not viable for 3 weeks so they can't changes anything?

Baby is still quite small and has quite a bit of room in there so has mostly likely got themselves into a position where you can’t feel them as easily. They might listen in for a heartbeat if you’re really worried but wouldn’t do anything else. Official advice is to contact someone if you’re 28 weeks and experience a change in movements, so you’re quite a way off from that. However, I did go in at 26+3 when I noticed a change in what was normal and everyone was so lovely - I think they’d always prefer to put your mind at rest than have you worry. It’s really your call - if your gut is telling you to follow this up then do.

He's making himself known again, having a wriggler:)

Is it really 28 weeks before a advice says contact midwives? Seems crazy when there is potential for viability month earlier!

You don't need to worry before 28 weeks as the baby is still very small and therefore you aren't likely to feel all movements.

Once you reach 28 weeks I think it's something like 10 moves in an hour.

At your stage I really wouldn't worry.

I went in at 21 weeks due to reduced movement and the midwives were very reassuring, saying before 24-26 weeks it’s unlikely to be anything to worry about.

I’m 21 weeks and have felt sporadic movement (I think, as I’ve got an anterior placenta) I try to not to worry though and feel ok as long as I’m feeling something.

I rang my midwife at 21 weeks for the same reason! They said not to worry as it's too early for there to be a regular pattern and they wouldn't worry until at least 24 weeks (I've also read 28 weeks elsewhere). I'm 23 weeks now and it's a bit more regular but he still has quiet days where I don't really feel anything. Sounds normal for this stage. It is hard though, it's so lovely to feel the movements but also another thing to feel anxious about!

Glad you’re feeling better now that baby is on the move op.

As another poster said, it’s less about viability and more about size and position of baby contributing to whether or not you can feel things Smile
