Young Mum thread

Thought I would make a thread for the young mums to be on here because to be honest I need the support! Ha

I’m 23 and around 5 weeks pregnant. Mixed emotions. Mainly worried that people will think I’m too young!

Need some positive vibes around me 😊

I'm 23 and have a little girl who's 5 months now :)
I'm 24 in April but I've always had a lot of support from family and friends. Unfortunately a few dirty looks from strangers when I was pregnant and even now (though I don't notice as much I'm far more interested in baby)

Ignore anyone giving you bad vibes. You'll be a brilliant mum if you ignore the negative people 😘

You aren’t that young at all! Goodness I thought you were going to say you were 17 or something!

I’m 25 and don’t feel that young tbh! Although maybe that’s because the other day my nana was telling me about when she had my uncle at 26 (she had two children at 18 and 19 before that) everyone kept telling her what an old mother she was 😂

22 and 27 weeks pregnant? Was terrified everyone would judge me but now I'm just embracing it!

Just turned 24 and 38 weeks pregnant. Was shocked at first but happy with the way things have worked out

23 isn't young . Congratulations by the way.
By 21 I had 3 kids . My first when I was 19. My son is now 21!
Never listen to the judgers , you do what you think is right.

Totally know how you feel! Im 24 and feeling so anxious to tell people about my pregnancy as I am worried about being judged mainly because I look fairly young for my age! X

I had DD 6 days before I turned 21. I covered my bump up through pregnancy as felt as though people would judge me. Once DD arrived I couldn't have cared less what people thought though.

As long as you're baby is loved and looked after then that's all that matters. When I finally got the courage to tell DM I was pregnant she told me that most people don't feel ready to have a baby whatever age they are.

I don't actually remember anyone judging me once DD arrived expect one snooty woman at nursery who smiles at all of the other parents but won't look at me I do occasionally get some looks of surprise when I tell people I have a 2.5 year old, especially if I have been talking to them about work and what I'm planning to do. It's amusing.

Congratulations on your pregnancy OP. Make the most of your peace before they arrive!

I've never received any negative comments whatsoever. Though this may be because I've always worked and am now at university as well. I think the stigma is more attached to young mums who people think only have kids for benefits or whatever. Though of course that's completely unrealistic 🙄

@drinkswineoutofamug thank you. I think people judge you whatever you do these days.

@Ann9456 Exactly. I've only told my OH and my mum who has been so supportive, don't know what I would have done otherwise. I think if you show how happy you are then people are more positive towards u. 😊

I'm 24 and have twin boys who are 2 in April, I was in my final year of uni when I got pregnant and managed to finish and I now work full flexi time around my boys being in nursery part time.
I was really worried about the 'young mum' label and other than my grandmother - I've never had a judgy comment made about my age.

I love being a 'young mum' and honestly wouldn't change it!!

@ObiJuanKenobi wow twin boys! Congrats! I have no idea how I will go back to work after maternity, although I really want to I think I'll struggle with child care. So much to think about!! X

I had dd at 20 and am now 21 with a 5 month old. I wouldn’t change a thing now! Seemed like bad timing when I fell pregnant as was at uni and just “starting out”, but now I feel as though my life has only just begun. Being a young mum does NOT mean your life is over but is simply just changing for the better. You have more energy to run around and act like a big kid and the extra energy is so handy when you’re sleep deprived. Also being a young mum means you have less of an age gap and will probably have more in common with your child as they get older. Not to mention the added bonus of looking back at photos of you and your little one and looking young and radiant rather than old and haggered 😂 plus you have so much more support around you when you are young and your parents will have more time with their grandchild also! Just a few of many perks of being a young mum. I bloody love it and so will you. You got this! X

Child care is tricky, do you have family close by that can help? My parents have ours at the weekend whilst we are out at work and then they go to nursery one day a week.

Good, you should feel at ease! This is a time for happiness, excitement and mental/physical wellbeing so enjoy every moment of this magical experience! x

I'm 24 and expecting my 2nd, planned. I had my 1st at 19 (just barely)! My family were supportive, always have been and still are now.

Some people might say a thing or two (although you're not THAT young to be having your first) but just remember, you can't please everybody!

@PandaCat thank you. I actually don't feel like I'm too young to have a baby, but I live in a very small town where everyone knows everyone & I know this will be gossip for a few days which fills me with anxiety! 🙁

Aww yeah, I get that, I lived somewhere like that at the time too.

I’m 23 with a 3 year old it’s the best thing in the world, and also the most tiring! I’m going back to Uni this September to start my midwifery degree, please ignore anyone who tells you that having children young is the end of your life - it’s just the beginning!

That’s just normal mother age!! Lol

I know exactly how you feel. I’m 20 and 8 weeks pregnant.

Also, I’m in my 3rd and final year of uni so I will be supporting a rather unusual look around campus. I finish before baby is born but I am dreading people looking at me. I’ll be 8 months pregnant during my graduation ceremony :( I hate the idea of walking out on front of hundreds of people to get my degree paper anyway, let alone with a massive belly and a baby face haha- gulp!

@Angharad07 if I saw someone pregnant graduating I would be feeling proud of them that they achieved something before they had a baby. I don't think people will be judging you at all , well done x
