Baby's movement no pattern - and no much movement - 31 weeks

I never felt the baby moving loads, definitely never felt my belly moving from the outside. I'm not overweight, but have a massive belly in part due to huge fibroids.
But I've been feeling her - just not much and surely no pattern at all. How am I supposed to monitor her movements if I don't know what's normal? I read the 10 movements per day advice is out of date. Sometimes I feel she is moving less but can't really tell!
Getting anxious.

Thanks for you replies in advance ladies x

Contact your midwife? It is 23 years since I was last pregnant so any advice I would give is way out of date. Hope all is ok 👌🏻

I would start by downloading the kicks count app, and using that to really try and closely track. There may be a pattern, you just aren't really seeing it at the moment. Also if you're quite active you may not be noticing baby's movements as much at certain times of the day. But if you're at all worried, the best thing you can do is see your midwife asap.

I know what you mean it's really difficult to find a pattern. But i find with mine that regardless of what I've been doing during the day, when i sit down to watch tv at night for a couple of hours i always feel something, and when i lie on my side I always feel something. I didn't think I'd felt much the other week so I made sure I sat and watched tv for a bit (felt nothing) then lay on my side for half an hour (still nothing) which prompted me to ring the midwife. Try and take some time out during the day to sit and feel her and just ring the midwife if you're worried about anything at all

I'd go and get the midwives to check. I had this with my DD. I just never felt her (and ended up overnight being monitored several times). She was fine, but it's better to find that out than to leave it. No 2 is completely different (even though the placentas for both are in the same place).

Bellamuerte · 14/01/2018 11:36

I didn't really notice a pattern. In fact I was unnecessarily worried because the lack of a pattern meant that some days there was virtually no movement and other days there was loads!

My dd didn't have a pattern at all and I was often too busy to pay proper attention and I felt like she hardly ever moved. If you are ever worried though you should speak to your midwife.

I'm the same, also 31 weeks and not a pattern. I've raised this with my consultant who says that as long as I feel some movement it's fine. I find if you have a bath sometimes you can feel more movement. As said previously just sit and take some time out. Remember baby sleeps for the majority of the day.
I know it's hard but try not to worry, but if it doubt speak to the midwife. Let me know how you get on xx

Thanks all, very helpful.

I'm very busy during the day so that's probably part of it. 4 weeks ago I told the midwife and she said fibroids might be restricting movement... but it sounded a bit silly tbh, like the old info on how babies move less towards the end of pregnancy for lack of space. I will take some quiet time now plus a bath - just downloaded that app as well, and if I still feel like this will ring the midwife

I counted 10 movements in less than 2 hours, not very strong though, I then took a bath and I could feel her rolling so that put my mind to rest. Going to start using the app and see if I can get any kind of pattern... I still think I should be feeling her much more at 31 weeks!
