Achey legs and hips

Hi, just a bit of advice, I'm 6 weeks pregnant and my legs and hips are killing me. It's actually sore to touch or press my thighs. I was expecting pain in my legs with pregnancy as I've just had 2 knee operations last year, the last of which was in August. I wasn't expecting pain this early and it being so bad. Has anyone else experienced similar?? Thanks xxx

I didn't experience leg pain but I did/do get hip and back pain. Your ligaments soften in pregnancy due to hormones and that can cause the pain you are feeling. In the early days a pillow between my knees when laid in bed made a huge difference and now I have a much longer pregnancy pillow that wraps fully around me and I use it on the sofa too.

I have a pillow between my knees now and it seems to have eased a bit. I shall be investing in a pregnancy pillow ASAP. Just sneaked up on me quicker than I was expecting!!

Thank you x

I've suffered hip pain for five months now. The midwife thinks it's related to hormones and the extra weight I'm carrying. Unfortunately it's unlikely to resolve itself until I give birth. A foam mattress topper has made the pain less severe but hasn't made it go away.

Try gentle stretches too. I am 17 weeks and getting mild-moderate pain in my hips/lower back/bum/underneath of my bump/tailbone...I find keeping mobile and stretching regularly helps to some extent. Obv don't overdo things though. The pain is worse if I sit in one place for too long or if I do too much standing etc so I get up frequently from my chair in the office and walk around, sit down regularly when I'm out shopping etc. I have booked a GP appt though just to get it all checked over, it's not for about a fortnight. If your pain is particularly bad I would recommend a GP appt as well, better to get it checked.
