First Baby Diagnosed With Acrania

I have read a few threads but they are all pretty old so I wanted some fresh advice from anyone in my position.

Myself and my parter got pregnant after just 6 weeks trying to conceive. I took seven seas vitamins for three months prior to this as well as for the first three months of pregnancy. We had a 9 week private scan to which the lady was very excited that everything looked great and baby was 9+1. We told friends and family and my boss was aware due to my horrendous morning sickness which was all day every day. We went to our 12 week scan and was amazed how big our baby had got and to see him (we feel he is a boy) moving around happily. But the sonographer gave us the news his skull had not fully formed and he was “not compatible with life” due to Acrania. We decided to terminate straight away as I could not put myself through anymore.

This was a week ago and I’m still waiting for my surgery which is absolute TORTURE. I was called by a clinic who told me they could do the procedure but they do have active protestors outside which I am to simply ignore. I have nothing against these places but due to my circumstances and the fact this baby is very wanted I am keen to stay with my hospital. They called today and can see me Wednesday to end my pregnancy.

I have been told next time I am to take 5mg of folic acid before conception and throughout to avoid this happening again. We want to get my cycle back to normal so are keen to try after 2 normal periods.

Can anyone shed some light on the aftermath of this procedure for medical reasons or on trying again after Acrania? I am 26 if that helps....

I'm so sorry for what you are going through - sadly I know nothing about Acrania so have no advice to offer, but didn't want this thread to just sit unanswered. Huge hugs and I hope everything works out for you next time. Flowers

Hi, are you having a surgical termination?

I don't think, other than folic acid, there will be anything else you need to worry about in a subsequent pregnancy with the acrania. After the surgical procedure you can try again as soon as you feel ready, although you need to avoid sex for a few weeks to minimise infection risk. There is some thinking that your lining needs a few cycles to build itself up again following a surgical but limited evidence of this - that said when I conceived again straight after a surgical TFMR I had a chemical so I'm inclined to consider it a possibility.

After the procedure you will have some on and off bleeding for a while probably, but likely no other complications and you just need to take it easy and be kind to yourself.

So sorry OP. I have no advice, but wanted to pass on my best wishes to you and your family over the coming weeks. Thinking of you.

You'll likely get some advice/a sheet on what to expect afterwards and they will probably be very gentle and kind with you. I'm sorry you are going through this Flowers

hi,

i know this is an old post but just after some advice, we had a miscarriage in March this year then i fell again pretty soon after in April and found out in May,
i also took the seven seas vitamins trying for a baby
we found out at our 12 week scan last week that our baby has acrania and we should terminate (in the process of dealing with this)

i see another post about someone who took seven seas vitamins and also their baby had acrania, im worried that this has something to do with it?? but it does contain folic acid so im very very shocked and i dont understand it

i will 100% not be taking them next time after reading a couple of posts about it

ive been prescribed a higher dose of folic acid to take for a few months before trying again

just wondering when you did and if you had a healthy pregnancy

thankyou
