Weird taste and smell :(

Hi everyone,

I'm 16 weeks preggo and finally seem to be getting 'some' relief from the constant nausea and fatigue. I've been plagued by excess mucous and spitting from early on, but this has now evolved into having an awful taste and smell in my sinuses.

I've done a lot of reading up on forums, but haven't found a great deal that fits with what I'm experiencing. A lot of people mention a metallic taste, mostly after they've eaten, but I really couldn't describe the taste, other than it being very unpleasant. The weird thing is I'm also smelling it every time I take a deep breathe in. It's not that different things are smelling bad, but I'm producing this bad smell and taste within myself and it's making everything taste and smell the same.

This has got so bad over the last couple of days that all my go to snacks to ward off the nausea now taste disgusting. I've gone through so many different things today - salt & vinegar crisps, sour apples, nuts, banana, humous - but have thrown all straight in the bin after one bite and I'm really hungry! So annoying, as I wasn't able to eat much for a while because of the nausea and now that I can, everything tastes gross. Grr.

The only thing I've been able to bear is aniseed balls (eek) and probably not wise for me to be munching many of those, as my teeth are already taking a battering, but they're the only thing strong enough to overpower the taste.

I went to the doc's and mentioned this (amongst many other things), but she didn't really get it. She had a good look up my nose when I mentioned the smell and said it looked a bit inflamed and prescribed me some antiobiotic cream, but I'm pretty sure it's hormone/pregnancy related.

Anyway, just wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar? Any suggestions if so? I'm getting a bit desperate about the food situation :(

Many thanks
