39 week internal

Hi everyone

Last week at the midwife she booked me in for a 39 week internal. She said I'll be in for a double appointment.

Does she mean that I will be having a sweep? I will be 39+3 when I go and see her.
Baby is 2/5 engaged at last appointment but no signs of anything atm other than odd pains that could just be normal pregnancy pains.

Sounds like she will do a sweep.

You don't have to have a sweep if you don't want one btw, it's an intervention and you get to decide if the risks/benefits make it acceptable to you! She should have explained that to you. In my trust women aren't offered a sweep until term by the midwife. You could always phone before the next appt to check x

Thank you for your replies!
I am nervous to have one because I don't really feel like I need one especially if I'm not even the full 40 weeks at that point.
Another reason is every week (bar one) I've had a completely different midwife. I've only seen my "actual" midwife twice the rest have been stand ins and I just don't want next week to be a complete stranger again doing a sweep when I don't know if it's what I want

Should I call the doctors?

Seems odd that they haven't told you why you need it? Have you had any other issues with your pregnancy or any previous?

hollyindie · 10/01/2018 16:47

Ijustwannadance

Nothing major in my pregnancy to cause concern.
There has been a couple of times I've been sent for a growth scan from when they measure my bump but always been fine and has always been on the 50th percentile.

I've had bad sickness but again nowhere near as bad as others I've heard about

Weird then. I'm 39w now but they only would've done an early sweep/induction if there was an issue like GD and a large baby or other concern. 40+w I could understand.

Ring up and ask why before the appointment

hollyindie · 10/01/2018 17:11

Yeah I will call them
I didn't think anything at the time until I seen my sister today and hold her and she said she hasn't heard of anything like that until 40+

Thank you xx
