Could this be what I think it is or am I overthinking it?

Hi all this is my first post!

I have seen a few threads on here all about similar concerns, but I am really not sure what to do and I'm freaking out!

Got a BFP on Sunday after having no period in December; I tend to have totally irregular cycles anyway, but the thing is, I had drank a few glasses of wine the night before (obviously unaware I was pregnant) and threw up after glass number 3, which is very unusual, (I'm usually quite good at handling my alcohol) hence why I took the test. I've also had sore breasts and various other symptoms (heightened sense of smell, nausea, etc)

I'm roughly 5 weeks, however today I have had the most severe cramping down below, it feels a lot like period pains. My breasts are no longer sore and I haven't felt sick at all, in fact I had a huge cheese and onion pasty at lunch time, whereas I lost my appetite over the last few weeks.

I have this awful back pain as well as stabbing pains in my lower abdomen and up towards my chest. But the pain isn't constant, it's coming in waves, almost like contractions? (I have no idea, this is my first pregnancy) I've had no blood, but I constantly feel like I need to go to the toilet and am getting the same sort of feelings that I do before I get my period.

I know I should go to the DR ASAP but I think I've come here for some reassurance and comfort? Could this be the early signs of an MC? Have any of you had this in early pregnancy? Sad thanks in advance for your replies xxx

Cramping is normal - even quite severe!! As a general rule (not a gp /similar) no bleeding no worry. Although bleeding can be OK too!! Bloody complicated business you know!! Congratulations!! Easier said than done but try and relax and enjoy your pregnancy!!

To be honest, a doctor wouldn’t do anything for you anyway. If the pain gets really severe, or is located to your shoulder then contact your closest EPU.

I’ve everything crossed it’s not a MC. I did get lower back pain with my youngest and he’s nearly 2 now!

Thank you.

The pain just got worse and I was in the toilet for about 10 minutes just then in agony. In bed now and I've still got waves of sharp pains and they seem to be getting worse although i might just be overthinking. I had a very light bit of spotting at work earlier, but I dismissed it as normal, but since this pain came on I've put two & two together.

I will ring up docs tomorrow and book an appointment, maybe get an early scan to check everything is ok.....? will let you know if anything else happens :-)

Thanks for your support x

I would call 111. If you're in that much pain I'd be worried about an ectopic pregnancy. I'm not an expert, so I think you should speak to one.

K9pal7 · 09/01/2018 21:19

Hope your okay. Slight spotting is normal and cramp like feeling am around 9 weeks and get cramp feeling, when i asked my doctor last week she said its normal as everything is Goingto star expanding anx grow in size.
If your cramping gets any worst and painful call 111, they'll advise you on what to do or tell you go to hospital.
Congratulations and hope everything gets better for you

I'd echo what @HumpHumpWhale ... If the pain is sharp and severe and is continuing... Could be ectopic so id call 111 to check just in case. Hopefully it's not and just normal cramps xx

You could also have a UTI.

ShowOfHands · 09/01/2018 21:58

Constantly needing the loo, back and abdominal pain are common symptoms of UTI and it's also a common infection in early pregnancy but you must rule out ectopic.

gamerchick · 09/01/2018 22:04

You need to go and be checked over OP. If you have an eptopic pregnancy it can be dangerous for you. Please ring for advice.

Bedhead1080 · 09/01/2018 22:07

The pain has quietened down a bit during the last half hour..

I have felt like needing the loo but not for a wee if you see what I mean..... it's very uncomfortable. I do keep going to the toilet to check if I have any blood as I'm worried stiff.

If I call 111 won't they just tell me to go A&E? I'd rather wait and see my GP tomorrow. I don't think this is an emergency just yet......

I have spent the last three days convinced I was miscarrying. I'm only 5w4d and had a gush of blood last Friday which changed to brown spotting and has now stopped. I've had several miscarriages and I was convinced the severe backache and horrible period types aches I was getting was a sign I'd miscarried. My backache was so painful I was taking paracetamol every 4 hours even when I went to bed.

I had a scan on Friday and only saw the gestational sac and yolk sac but was rescanned today and saw an embryo and heartbeat. Those severe pains have disappeared today so I think you could just be experiencing normal 'stretching' pains you read about.
