Growth scan. Humour me.

My growth scan at 35 weeks today estimated my baby's weight to be 5lb 9oz.

I know these scans are unreliable but please just humour me!

If you had a scan at 35 weeks which showed a similar weight, what weight was your baby when they were born? I'm really anxious about having a very large baby.

Baby was 6.5lb at 35 weeks and was 6.13lb when born at 38+5

TheVanguardSix · 09/01/2018 17:11

5 pounds at 38weeks.
8 1/2 pounds at term (40 weeks). Hmm

TeddyIsaHe · 09/01/2018 17:13

7lb 4oz at 36 weeks, born at 39 weeks 6lb 11oz

OvO · 09/01/2018 17:14

I had a growth scan with my DS1 at 31 weeks - estimated weight of 7lb 9oz. Shock

He arrived at 38 weeks weighing 10lb 8oz.

But for every time I've read/hear of an accurate growth scan there's two more that were wrong.

dicdicnurse · 09/01/2018 17:17

DD1 born at 35 weeks, estimated to be under 5lb on scan and was 4lb 2oz born.
DD2 born on her due date, 5lb 6oz

PurplePoppySeed · 09/01/2018 17:19

Scan at 36+6 estimated to be 7lb13oz, now 40+6 having refused to go down a route that could lead to early induction and midwife today assured me that the baby doesn't feel big, has room the twirl about inside me- demonstrated by it turning back-to-back and back again while she was doing the heart beat monitor!

PurplePoppySeed · 09/01/2018 17:20

5lb9oz at 35 doesn't sound too worrying - what did the radiographer say?

leannejade · 09/01/2018 17:21

6lb 3oz at the 36 week growth scan.
6lb 4oz when born 40+6

Motherofbabydragons · 09/01/2018 17:23

The week DD was born had a scan that said she was about 8lbs 9...She was born 7lbs 7🤷🏻‍♀️

BrokenBattleDroid · 09/01/2018 17:25

7lb, but had been estimated at the high end of 8lb (can't remember exactly, maybe 8lb 11oz?) from the growth scan.

Eryri1981 · 09/01/2018 17:37

5Lb 1oz at 32 +4, so in the same position as you hoping DD won't be too big!!
Also Amniotic fluid levels near the top end of the normal range, so I feel massive, was measuring 38 weeks at 35 weeks midwife appointment :-( just got to hope I don't go to 42 weeks or else I will be enormous!!!

Fia256 · 09/01/2018 17:41

DD was estimated to be 6lbs 13oz at 36 week growth scan, was told to expect a a 8/9lb baby full term. She came at 39+2 weighing 7.1lbs! So it's a load of bollocks half the time Grin

holycityzoo · 09/01/2018 17:42

My growth scans weren't accurate.
I've had

Dd-7lb 6
Dd-7lb 13
Ds-10lb 8
Ds-8lb10

All delivered vaginally and no difference in labours. Big doesn't necessarily mean a hard labour.

nousername123 · 09/01/2018 17:46

My 36 week growth scan said the baby was 7lbs!!!! I'll let you know what he comes out at very soon hopefully lol x

chocolateorangeowls · 09/01/2018 17:55

At one point they told me to expect an 11lb baby! She came out at 7lb 3oz Smile

babyitscoldoutsideX · 09/01/2018 19:08

Growth scan at 36 weeks showed 7lbs 9oz baby apparently. Gave birth at 40+2 to a 5lbs 10! X

OneForTheRoadThen · 09/01/2018 19:12

7lb 8oz at 35 weeks! Arrived at 36 weeks at 7lb 9oz. I don't think that sounds too big at all OP.

Jaunty · 09/01/2018 19:24

A scan at 35 weeks for my second dc estimated the weight at 6lb 13oz (which freaked me out). When he was born he was 9lb. My first dc was 7.5lb so a 9lb baby was a bit of a shock, particularly as I'd struggled to keep any food down all pregnancy and had spent much of it worrying the baby wasn't getting enough food to grow. However, the bigger baby was by far the easiest to birth and the recovery afterwards was much quicker too.

DreamGhost · 09/01/2018 19:27

Thank you all, it looks like I'm not going to know until the big day (which I already knew Blush). My bump seems huge and everyone comments how massive I am Hmm though I have been measuring on target.

Here's hoping I don't give birth to the biggest baby ever!

Growth scans are unreliable for accuracy. And I thought babies put on half a pound a week on average in the last few weeks? Even if this happened for you over five weeks, that would be a baby only just over 8lbs, hardly a giant!

mummaaksm · 09/01/2018 22:09

My scan estimated about the same as you and he was born 7lb6oz at 40+2

JeansAndANiceTop · 09/01/2018 22:12

Mine was showing big.
Delivered by c section at 37+5 and he was 9lb6.

twobambinos · 09/01/2018 22:17

6lbs 10at 34 weeks. Born at 41+2 weighing 7lbs 2

PurplePoppySeed · 19/01/2018 22:29

Update now baby has arrived:

Scan at 36+6 estimated 7lb13oz
Birth at 41+ 4 weight 9lb14oz - whilst he was heavy, he's actually physically smaller than my DD was at 8lb4oz so eight doesn't always = large size!

Mummyme87 · 20/01/2018 01:40

Estimated 2.7kg at 35*4 and came out 39+6 4.5kg
