Child Benefit for 3 kids....

So I'm PG with my 3rd and I do claim child benefit for my 2. This new one is with a new parter, now I'm aware I can't claim child benefit for the 3rd, but can he claim for this one, being his first?

Thanks xx

Your household has claims for 2. It's not per parent but per household.

You can claim child benefit for your 3rd, think its tax credits that you can't.

MirandaWest · 09/01/2018 15:34

You can claim child benefit for any amount of children.

It's tax credits that are limited to 2.

I get a small amount of benefits, tax credits/working tax credits as partner not moved in yet, he is at some point before this bundle comes along so guess it will all change then.....

The only thing that restricts child benefit is the amount the higher paid person earns.

If it's up to £50,000 then you get full child benefit.

If it's over £60,000 you get nothing, or you claim and the higher paid person has to pay it back in extra tax.

If the higher paid person earns between £50,000 and £60,000 then child benefit decreases on a sliding scale

When he does move in then you will need to make a joint claim for tax credits.

No because it's your 3rd and your the primary carer unless he's planning to raise that child alone your not entitled, you would be committing benefit fraud otherwise!

dementedpixie · 09/01/2018 15:43

You do the claim and claim for all 3. It would not be fraud for him to claim for his own child but our isn't necessary as child benefit is not limited to 2 children

From .gov website

You get Child Benefit if you’re responsible for one or more children under 16 (or under 20 if they stay in approvededucation or training). There’s no limit to how many children you can claim for

Only one person can get Child Benefit for a child.

You are correct - www.gov.uk/child-benefit-rates

Bear in mind that in the future if you need to claim CTC if your circumstances change (eg become a lone parent) then you will only be able to claim for the first two children (except for a very few special exceptions).
