Can you request a presentation scan?

A couple of times recently midwives have felt me and said baby is head down, and then I've had a scan afterwards (same day then next day) and baby has been breech

I know she could have moved backwards and forwards but I don't think she has, as I've had quite a few scans and every time she's been in the same breech position

Can I request a presentation scan before delivery just in case? A friend was told her baby was engaged when in fact the baby was transverse so I am a bit concerned

Thanks!

How many weeks are you? Usually if you have a scan near term (32 weeks plus) and baby is breach you'll be referred for a scan at 36 weeks to check the position. Generally though it's down to the midwife to figure out which way round baby is otherwise everyone would need scans before they gave birth.

May not help, my second DC was head down at 38+3, a week later when I went into labour they were oblique

Mine was head down and ended up transverse at 39 weeks, thankfully turned again and I got induced.

My son was head down for weeks then got to delivery and he'd turned round and was breech. I don't think you can request a scan for breech normally just by touch, squishy for butt and firm for a head.

My first was an undiagnosed breech resulting in an EMCS, it was missed several times by several different midwives and even during labour. I have insisted since my booking in with this pregnancy that I will be having a presentation scan at 36-37 weeks I have had no push back at all from midwives of consultant team, they have all agreed happily to do one even if pretty sure it's head down (everybody agreed DD was breech until about 34 weeks then community midwife thought she had turned) so didn't get sent for a scan. So yes you can insist in some circumstances I think!

If you are having a section they should scan you to double check still breech.

Or if your planning a vaginal breech they should still scan to check its the correct breech for vaginal delivery x
