I am contemplating at which risk I should opt for invasive antenatal testing like CVS or amnio. It comes down to weighting the risk due to being uncertain (I would want to know even if I carry to term) against the risk of miscarriage. I know the statistics but was wondering if anybody would be willing to share their or their closes friends story about mc after invasive tests. Would the do it again? Was it likely caused by an inexperienced doctor or just chance? I hope this is not too painful.

I had an amnio at 17 weeks and my waters broke the same day. There was nothing they could do to save the pregnancy so I gave birth to a little girl called Phoebe after 3 days. I personally wouldn't have an amnio again unless there was an exceptional reason e.g. very very high liklihood that the baby wouldn't live after birth or may suffer after delivery. I fully understand that it's incredibly bad luck for this to happen and is not the norm at all but it's the old 'lightening never strikes twice' syndrome. I am frightened that anything could happen esp after people telling me that an amnio wouldn't cause any harm at all. Sorry for downer e-mail but hope it helps.
