Hi there, I had a miscarriage just in summer past and I'm currently 5 weeks +3 with 9 positive tests. I have a reassurance scan tomorrow. Will there be a chance I'll be able to see my baby on the scan this early?

Gosh I don't know. I had a scan at 9 weeks and they were only dinky then - like 2-3cm!

You should hopefully be able to see a sac at least if dates are right, and possibly a foetal pole.

It’s possible but perhaps not likely that you’ll see a heartbeat - depends on positioning of the pregnancy, how good scanner is, whether scan trans abdominal or trans vaginal, your anatomy etc. So there’s no reason to panic if you can’t see it.

Who is doing the scan, do you have a re scan option if no heartbeat visible tomorrow? Just for your own reassurance. I would repeat not seeing a heartbeat so early is not a cause for concern.

You should ideally wait until after 6 weeks as you'll be more likely to see a heart beat then. Tomorrow you'll only see a sack and if you're anything like me, it will not reassure you at all.

Thanks ladies. It's my epu that's doing the scan at the hospital. Do you think they will give me a trans vaginal scan with it being so early?

I keep taking tests as I'm so paranoid because of the miscarriage every twinge in my tummy has me running to the bathroom to make sure I'm not bleeding I know I'm being over paranoid but I can't help it. Is it normal for me to feel like I've stretched a muscle at the gym that's the only way I can describe it.

It'll definitely be a transvaginal scan. You won't see anything that early on a regular ultrasound.

My 5 +2 scan showed a sac and yolk, and a heartbeat was seen at 6 +2. I wouldn't worry if you don't see a heartbeat tomorrow.

Easier said than done, but try not to worry.

@Dawn1992 it's completely normal to feel like that after a miscarriage. I didn't stop knicker watching until about 20 weeks with this pregnancy. I bled at 6-7 weeks with this current pregnancy and it started the exact same way as my miscarriage and I was really freaked but all was ok.

jusdepamplemousse · 08/01/2018 20:43

Yes stretching pain normal.

It’s so hard after a m/c - you no longer have the benefit of blissful ignorance / naivety I feel. Been there. But your chances of a healthy continuing pregnancy are greater than your chances of things going wrong. Try to focus on that.

Take it easy and be kind to yourself. Flowers
