Hi all

I've started being sick again tonight. I also have a very 'full' and 'heavy' feeling low down where the baby is, sharp pain my ribs (might be tight bra!), banging headache, swollen ankles/feet and hands.

First baby (prob obvious!). Are these usual second trimester feelings. I should be glowing and have energy levels back to normal but don't.

I walk 40 mins a day, have put on 2lbs during pregnancy so far but am obese (BMI on 30 exactly).

Symptons sound a bit like preeclampsia but sounds a little unlikely, do you think?

My 16 week scan is booked for this Tues.

Any advice? I'm in bed cuddling a pillow 🤕

Do you have the contact details for your own midwifery team? It's usually somewhere in the notes you got at booking in appt. I would be inclined to call them for advice as they will know whether or not your symptoms may be cause for concern.

You just sound poorly to me! The glow is a myth for some of us unfortunately

I would call over to your maternity unit. Get some advice and maybe better getting checked out. Better to be safe.

Sounds very much like pre-eclampsia! Call your maternity unit ASAP

Not sure about the pre-eclampsia, if your really worried call your midwife and see what she says.

I'm 25weeks with my first, not all women 'glow' in the 2nd trimester (I don't think I did) and my tiredness didn't really ease off until I got to 20 weeks.

The pain in your ribs may well be your bra, out of interest have you started wearing maternity bras? They are far more comfortable and don't have any underwiring which might help ease rib pain.

Hope this helps

Thanks all.

I've tried to call maternity unit but couldn't get through. Probably because it's 8pm on a Friday. A&Es are totally over run and my midwife appt is this Tuesday. Would it be a bad decision to assume I'm more likely to be in the 94% of women who don't get preeclampsia. I am low risk (only tick 1, not 2, of the list of high risk factors with first baby).

If symptons get worse over weekend, I could then call 111?

I think I've developed some kind of hypochrondia as yesterday I convinced myself I had Gestational Diabetes. I now don't know whether I'm convincing myself of this stuff or it's really happening. Feel like I'm loosing my mind.

I'm wearing non underwired bras. Not mat bras specifically.

Does anyone know if the symptons come and go? I feel much better today so haven't called the maternity unit, thinking that maybe it was just being knackered at end of a long week (headache), bra too tight (right side rib pain) and just usual preggo swollen hands and feet...? If I did have something scary would those issues be there long term?

How has your blood pressure been? Pre eclampsia can have such a wide range of symptoms and the onset can be so vague I'd always err on the side of caution. How is the swelling and headache today? It would be pretty unusual to develop pe this early but phone triage or your midwife and see what they say.

Girlwiththearabstrap · 06/01/2018 15:04

And personally once I developed the swelling, epigastric pain, visual disturbances and headaches that was it. I didnt feel better and by that point all the tests were showing. But like i said the onset can vary from person to person.

TammySwansonTwo · 06/01/2018 15:07

Please please please get yourself checked out. Please.

I don't want to be dramatic, but when I was much further along (35w) I didn't feel "right" at all - up all night with a headache and just felt wrong. Thankfully my midwife insisted I go in because one of my twins bad stopped moving and I had an emcs right away.

I am sure you're fine and it's nothing but if I could go back I would have trusted myself a lot more - if you don't feel right, call the hospital and let them make the call.

Intelinside · 06/01/2018 20:52

That's really helpful. I will definitely mention to my midwife Tuesday when we have the 16 week appointment, but I feel more 'right' today. I had a lie in, wasn't lookingat my computer screen. Didnt wear a bra for most of the day 😂

Hands are swollen a bit, ring indention is deeper than usual but can get ring off easily when I couldn't before, and no headache today.

I'm worried about my mental health as it can't be normal to think I've got every disease and problem going. Not sure why I'm so anxious all the time! I'm a moderately anxious person but think that's worth a mention too!

Can't believe I have another 5 months! Confused
