Hi everyone

I'm new to Mumsnet and have just had my first positive test. I've read loads of helpful articles while my husband and I were trying but I suddenly feel like I know nothing! It's early days and I know the next step is to see my GP but any advice as to what to expect?!

It all suddenly feels terrifying!!

Congratulations!

You don't necessarily need to see your GP, I didn't as where I live you can self refer at 6 weeks pregnant to then be booked in for your first midwife appointment which usually happens around 8 weeks pregnant.

Most important thing for you now is to start taking pregnancy vitamins and read up on the NHS website what you can and can't eat or do.

Thank you! Will get reading! x

Exciting! Congratulations 😁 I went to the doctor a couple of days after I got my positive. They gave me an info pack about screening for various things, an Emma's Diary book and contact details for my local midwife team. Apparently I'll hear from a midwife soon to have an appointment with her and she'll book my 12 week scan. That's in the South Wales Valleys so may be different where you are.

Take folic acid
Ditch the alcohol

And in my area you don’t see a gp either, you just fill a form in to refer to the midwife service.

Congratulations!

I'd ring your drs surgery in the morning and find out if you need to see the gp first or can self refer. I'm 4w and rang to book for my midwife appointment today upon dr recommendation to do so today (didn't think I'd need to worry about that so soon) and the next available app is literally when I'm 8 weeks! So your best to get that ball rolling soon as poss!

Not much more you can do for now other than take care of yourself and take vitamins/folic acid etc! SmileThanks

First step would be make an appointment and get on some pregnancy vitamins.
Read up on foods and situations to avoid and most of all, enjoy this time :)
Congratulations!! Xx
