Also just curious... if any of you had to tell work earlier than you wanted due to not feeling well or any appointments?

About 14 weeks, after I had told family. Maternity appts are protected time, so I wanted to let them know before the 16wk MW appt so that I didn’t have to take more time off. But my manager and colleagues are lovely and are good friends - some people have to be more strategic about it sadly

ClareB83 · 03/01/2018 10:00

I told them around 15 weeks because of Christmas Dos, so many appointments and starting to show (twins), I would have preferred to wait until 20 weeks.

Bobbiepin · 03/01/2018 10:03

I told HR at 7 weeks so I could take time off for my booking appointment- they need evidence for medical appointments in term time (teacher). I'm glad I did though because I had awful morning sickness and struggled a lot with fatigue in the first trimester and they were really supportive and helped a lot (covered some of my classes so I could go home and nap, didn't make me set cover when I was too sick to come in etc.) I told my line manager the weekend I found out, but she is also a very close friend and I knew I would probably need her support. She was told more because of the friendship than the work side of things though.

nousername123 · 03/01/2018 10:04

I told them as soon as I found out as I have a very physically demanding job with long hours and wanted risk assessments done etc x

amysaurus87 · 03/01/2018 10:04

I told my family as soon as I found out, so would have been about 5weeks. I told work soon after that (probably about 6weeks) as they have to do a risk assessment for me.

TonicAndTonic · 03/01/2018 10:06

16 weeks because I thought it was starting to show - I think in actual fact I would have got away with it for a few more weeks! I was lucky though because I didn't have any symptoms and there weren't any specific risks associated with my job.

For the early medical appts I told work that the midwife ones were GP appts, which I get paid time off to attend, and then took half a day of annual leave for the 12 week scan.

thethoughtfox · 03/01/2018 10:07

Had to tell them about 6 weeks as I had to go to hospital for an early scan as I was bleeding.

INeedToEat · 03/01/2018 10:11

As soon as I found out (4 weeks). I work in a potentially volatile environment where I may of had to carry out restraints.

samb1979 · 03/01/2018 10:13

I'm at work now (5 weeks) and thinking I should at least tell my boss? I'm not sure what to do 😕 I can't access any maternity information on our intranet site without at least telling him or HR.

MrsPworkingmummy · 03/01/2018 10:14

At about 8 weeks as I was off with morning sickness, amd wanted to ensure the sickness was logged as 'pregnancy related' so it couldn't be disclosed as part of my general sickness record (which is very good)

FairfaxAikman · 03/01/2018 10:14

I think I would have been about six weeks when I told my immediate Line manager as there are certain things at work it would have stopped me doing.
I told the next line up at 9 weeks as they were sending me into a potentially volatile situation and at he same time I had to tell the colleague who came out with me as he needed to know why he couldn't l ave me alone.
Everyone else was after 12 weeks (apart from the two colleagues that guessed)

Paperchains1986 · 03/01/2018 10:18

About 6 weeks as was experiencing fatigue and wanted them to know why I changed my hours from 9 - 5 to 10.30 - 6.30. I only did this because the deputy director, my bosses boss, had come back from mat leave herself the previous year so thought she'd be sympathetic.

hannknitted · 03/01/2018 10:20

I told my line manager at about 7 weeks because I was struggling with morning sickness - she was great and gave me lots of flexibility to work at home, and she was an absolute god send during the Christmas lunch when I could hardly stomach anything - she sat beside me and kept taking food off my plate and putting it on to hers so it didn't look obvious I wasn't eating 😂

I haven't told anyone else at my work yet - I've got my 12 week scan on the 17th so I'll start telling folk after then if all is well.

lunar1 · 03/01/2018 10:23

I was having fertility treatment, I kept my ivf injections in the work fridge and got whoever I was on shift with to give me them. I started vomiting basically from conception and carried on for 40 weeks.

Work knew everything I did!!

Areyouwell · 03/01/2018 10:24

I told my bosses at 12 weeks as I needed time off for the dating scan. I would have told them earlier as they are extremely supportive during pregnancies ( well at anytime really ) but didn't as I was scared to miscarry again. This is my third pregnancies with them. With my son, my first, I told them at 6 weeks!
I told my colleagues at 18 weeks just before the xmas dinner.

PurpleTraitor · 03/01/2018 10:30

24 weeks

Liz38 · 03/01/2018 10:39

13 weeks, after I'd had the 12 week scan results and a reasonably all clear from nuchal testing due to my age. One colleague just said er yes, we'd worked that one out! I changed shape at 5 weeks and was in full on mat clothing from 10 as none of my normal formal fitted work clothes fitted any more.

ClaireBear1986 · 03/01/2018 10:47

I had to tell work at 11 weeks or I would have been unable to attend scans and apps as we are not allowed time off for docs etc and don't get paid for sick days.

My male boss has been fantastic, however my female boss has made things very difficult for me and caused me a lot of unnecessary stress.
Since telling everyone, I have found out that my female boss is known for having a dislike for pregnant women, so at least I know it was nothing personal. Ha.

harrietm87 · 03/01/2018 11:52

I told them at 16 weeks. Would have held out longer as I wasn't showing and I don't want or need to be treated differently (desk-based job but male-dominated industry), but my secretary read my personal emails and started
gossiping so I had to! Not ideal tbh.

PinkyPromise77 · 03/01/2018 21:11

A proper mix then... trying to decide when would be best... probably letting them know earlier will help especially if I feel crap 💩 but also hope they will be ok about it...

7 weeks with my first because I was really ill.

I'm 12 weeks now but not gone back to work yet, will probably tell them when I go to a kit meeting next week as I plan to go back mid Feb

user1485778793 · 03/01/2018 22:05

Although when I walk in next week I won't need to tell them.... my bump is huge already

cowssheephens · 03/01/2018 22:10

16 weeks with my first and 12 weeks with my second.

Bellamuerte · 03/01/2018 22:40

I told them at 16 weeks because I needed time off for a hospital appointment. Got sacked immediately (officially not because I was pregnant, of course - they found another excuse). Wish I'd kept my mouth shut!

twobambinos · 03/01/2018 23:16

14 Weeks with the first one. 20weeks with the second. Would have got away with it for much longer on both. Just didn't want them to hear it from someone else. Small town
