Aggressive, tickle cough - is it harming baby?

Have my 20 week scan tomorrow, so I'll hopefully get some professional answers then. I've had a week long cold/flu and I'm currently suffering from an aggressive, "tickly" cough (have been for about 3 days now). The cough has been so severe that it's made me physically throw up a few times! I can't help but worry whether all this aggressive coughing might be affecting/harming the baby?

Anyone had (or know of anyone who had) raging coughs during their pregnancy and it be fine?

Just looking for a little reassurance, I guess :(

Thank you x

Oh that doesn't sound fun! :( Hope you feel better soon.

I had a really nasty cough when I was 10-11 weeks pregnant and I was worried about that too. Don't worry though, my doctor told me that baby would be well protected from it and not to worry too much. If you're struggling to settle it, hot showers (I used to just sit in the bathroom for the steam!) and copious amounts of honey and lemon worked wonders for me.

On a side note, just to make sure that your flu symptoms are gone and this is now a residual but nasty cough that's left over? Just as taking flu symptoms into a hospital wouldn't be great :(

I've had a cough for 3 weeks, bad enough that I've damaged a rib. I've been in agony but the GP was not concerned one bit. I was sent to hospital (unrelated) and again the midwives were not one bit worried about me doubling over when coughing and due to force was almost sick on one of them!

As the GP told me, you just have to wait it out unfortunately. I stayed indoors as much as possible as the cold air made me cough more. I also avoided foods that made it worse i.e. milk, chocolate, pasta. I sucked on cough sweets, drank lots of water and made sure I got all my vitamins. I also used a hot water bottle on my upper back or resting on my chest and it definitely helps.

I'm almost through the other side and can feel baby kicking about as normal. Everyone has said that a cough won't do any harm. Just rest as much as you can, stay warm and hydrated.
