Hey guys,

Can someone please enlighten me on the best kind (most practical) baby monitor to buy please?

I am a first time Mum trying to gather the things I need and I am totally lost when it comes to baby monitors....

Any opinions would be most welcome.

Thanks guys

it depends on the thickness of your walls and how far you want it to range.
imo the fisher price sounds and lights one at £20 is difficult to beat, if you want to spend more the the BT digital baby monitor plus is fab. The tomy walkabout classic is one in between.

We tried the Tomy Walkabout and all we got was interference whichever channel it was on. It was fine on the mains but not with batteries (which kind of defeats the object). We only have a small house as well. I'm thinking of trying the BT digital. My friend has one and it seems really good.

It also depends on where you live and how many people have children - if you live in a block of flats full of families you may want to get one with more than two channels. I too have the sound and lights one, which has only 2 channels, which is fine at home but when we go to stay with friends there is always interference between our monitors, even though they are different brands. Some posh ones have up to 99 different channels.

Oh, and think about where you will be using it. Some of them the transmitter (baby end) has to be plugged in, which is fine if you only plan using it at home, but if you may be using it in places with out a plug (eg car, garden, tent) then you might want to get one which has both a battery transmitter and receiver.

Thank you for the quick responses!

It seems that they really are as complicated as I thought...so much to consider for my prego brain!

I shall look at the ones mentioned...thanks again everyone!

I love Mumsnet!
